Is my pregnant cat's bad gas a sign she's about to have kittens?

She's due very soon, as cats gestation period is generally 58-64 days give or take. Their uterus is actually V-shaped, and each horn can lie along either side of her belly. Once she has weaned this litter of kittens, I strongly recommend getting her spayed to prevent further litters and a number of health problems that are more likely to occur if she is not spayed.

I would give her space and limit the number of people hovering around her and checking on her. Cats can delay labor when stressed. Leave her in a quiet room with a litter box, food and water. Provide a comfortable box or bed for her to have the babies. Check on her every few hours. Good luck!

If your kitten is active, playful, and eating and drinking, then I'm not too worried. Your kitten may have overeaten and his GI tract might be working hard on digestion, or there could be intestinal parasites or gas causing the GI sounds. If he is otherwise happy and active, I'd just monitor for now and mention it at his next kitten visit, and bring in a fresh fecal sample for your vet to check for parasites. However, if he's lethargic, vomiting, or not eating, then this should be checked immediately. Hope this helps!

Well, this is not terribly uncommon. If you are raising mom and babies correctly, you probably switched Diamond over to kitten food while she is nursing her young. This is often the cause of gaseousness and / or liquefied appearance of feces. With time, some cats more than others, the feces tends to refirm and the amount of gas returns to normal. You can try adding a product like Fortiflora to the food. This encourages healthy and quick probiotic growth in the gut. There is a canine and a feline version so be sure to grab the correct product. Mia does look like her abdomen is mildly distended, which may be due to pregnancy, or may be secondary to another underlying issue (fluid accumulation, etc.). If she is pregnant and her expected due date is in 2-3 weeks, an xray can verify pregnancy, as well as count how many kittens (if any) she is going to have (and sometimes kittens can be felt on physical examination). I would recommend having her evaluated by your regular veterinarian to determine if she is pregnant or if she has another underlying issue that needs to be addressed. Good luck!

That could be diagnosed at around 25th day of pregnancy by quite expert ultrasonographers, or possibly later (36-40th day) with abdominal radiographs or manual palpation. Unfortunately only the ultrasound can give you information about the vitality of the kittens. There are hormonal tests available as well, but not everywhere and cost could be higher. Keep in mind that the uterus of a cat is a Y shaped with two horns, and there could be kittens located more to the body of the uterus as opposed to the end of the horns. While Gg could have four kittens, it's very likely she has others than cannot be seen. There is no way to know how many kittens she has without seeing a vet. X-rays can be done that will show exactly how many kittens she is carrying.
