Why is my new Persian cat suddenly lethargic with eye discharge?

This discharge could be coming primarily from the mouth or any of the associated anatomic structures and it is not possible to know exactly without an examination. This could certainly be due to an infection for example. It does appear that she is uncomfortable. How this is managed really depends on what actually is going on. For that reason, I highly recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to diagnose this and proceed with therapy accordingly. Hi there, I'm only appreciating a small amount of eye discharge in the photograph, which could be normal after a long nap or sleep, just like in people. If Percy begins to hold his eyes closed, the eye discharge becomes yellow/green/runny, sneezing, coughing, or less interest in food- these would all be signs of a respiratory infection that may require treatment and an exam from your vet. It is likely that Curdles has an upper respiratory infection, which is pretty common in kittens. He needs to see a veterinarian so that an appropriate medication can be prescribed. Clavamox is often used for routine symptoms, but the eyes should be checked immediately for corneal ulcers, as these are quite complicated and need specific eye medications.

Hello. This could be any number of things such as a flare up of a herpes virus very common in cats, or he has as infection, possibly from a small scratch on his cornea, or even a bit on conjunctivitis. Wil should see his veterinarian to make sure there is nothing more serious with the eye, & usually, with the proper treatments & medications, eyes clear up very nicely. This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. The most common cause for an excessively teary eye is a viral upper respiratory tract infection and they can cause a fever. A fever can cause lethargy and not wanting to eat. Other possibilities are an injury to the eye that is painful. Since he isn't eating and lethargic he needs to be examined by a Vet. Cats shouldn't go longer than 2-3 days with out eating as they can get very sick from a secondary liver problem. I wish Allie a speedy recovery!

Poor kitty. Given that he's less active, has been sneezing, and has discharge from his eye, it's not recommended to see if it will pass. He should see a vet for a health check and medications for his symptoms.
