What's the difference between peke, doll, and half-peke cat faces?

I don't think we can verify the genetics of any cat without a genetic test, but this kitten it is tough to tell from the photos if he has the appearance of a persian cat, which normally have a flattened appearance to the face. But we cannot see a side-view here, so it is tough to say. If his face is flattened, the appearance is mild (but there can be variations within the breed). You can see examples here: http://cfa.org/Breeds/BreedsKthruR/Persian.aspx . If the breeder has the parents of this kitten that may give you more assurance. Either way, it is a very cute kitten!

It is impossible to tell from the pictures if this cat is single or double coated (especially in a white cat) - double coated cats have a short, soft coat underneath with longer guard hairs as an overcoat. It is very difficult to predict in kittens if this will be short, medium or long coated but the distinctive short nose and head structure of a pedigree persian does not appear to be developed here. The bald patch on the nose could be ringworm or also possibly a healing ulcer from herpes virus infection - both of these would be expected to grow back

Some breeds, such as Scottish Folds can have flat faces and curled ears. This is caused by a genetic mutation, and is considered normal (and desirable) for the breed. There shouldn't be any problem with this, however checking the ears regularly to make sure they stay clean and dry is a good idea.

He is so cute! I can't tell you based on pictures alone. A pixie bob usually has a shortened tail and I can't see his in the picture. They also have an orange belly. I suspect if you didn't get him from a breeder he is probably just a domestic short hair. Kisses to Keanu!

Dooney is so cute! Having a tiny nose could make it harder for him to breathe, especially if it's high temperatures or he has an upper respiratory infection. You could talk to a vet about a cosmetic surgery to make larger openings. This breed of cat commonly has small openings and I usually only see a problem if there is an infection, like a cold. I would keep him from other cats to prevent an infection and monitor for any drainage. Good luck and kisses to Dooney!

Hi and thank you for posting your questions in Pet Coach! I'd be glad to help you. Whiskey is simply beautiful :-) 1. Flat faced cats can snore due to the confirmation of their face. They have a shorter nasal passage than other cats. This shortness of their muzzle and palate causes the necessary obstruction that makes the sound. I have a Persian with an extremely flat face, and he snores when he sleeps. This can be normal, but at the same time, could be caused by a partial obstruction in the upper nasal passageway. If you notice this loud breathing when she is awake, have her checked out by a vet. 2. Again, the flatter face commonly leads to excess tear discharge. My Persian also has these problems, and I clean his face daily. I recommend doing the same with Whiskey. If you notice the discharge increases, it becomes green or yellow, and/or her eyes become red and watery, these can be signs of an eye infection and I would have her checked out by a vet. 3. Being overweight can contribute to her snoring and make it worse, but due to her face structure, she likely will still snore even when she has lost weight. It just may not be as bad with the weight off. Begging can be very annoying, so I recommend feeding her a couple of times a day. Divide her daily food allotment into two to three equal meals, and space the feedings out throughout the day. You can also put her on a weight control diet which is higher in fiber and would help her feel full longer. There are weight control diets that can be prescribed by the vet, so make an appointment to discuss using one with her. I'd also recommend having a blood test and urinalysis done as well just to rule out a medical cause for her being so hungry. Diseases like diabetes and hyperthyroidism can lead to an increased appetite, so it's good to rule those out. I hope this helps! Enjoy your gorgeous girl!

It could also be a skin infection. Without seeing her in person, I cannot diagnose exactly what is going on. I'd have her seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.
