My older cat pins my younger cat. Is this normal cat play or bullying?

Both of them are really cute! I would get the male neutered once his turns 5 months to prevent this behavior from getting worse. The female could go into heat at anytime so I would advise to get her spayed as well. This behavior may never go completely away as it is their personalities. You may try to put some feliway diffusers throughout the house to help calm them. Feliway is a cat pheromone that doesn't work on all but can help with this behavior. They even have a multicat household version now. I would always meal feed and feed them separately as food aggression is really hard to control. I would also make sure you have at least 2, preferably 3, litterboxes to decrease competition. If the feliway and neutering doesn't help, I would talk to your vet about giving the more dominant one something to help mellow him out like an antianxiety medicine. Hopefully this is just a behavior he has since he is young and boisterous and he will grow out of it. I hope this helps!

This sounds like a typical play behavior. In general watch for signs that one cat is trying to avoid the other cat. Watch for the cats hissing at each other. Watch for any signs of intentional bites or scratches that leave marks. If the cats are willingly interacting and you don’t notice any hiding or avoidance behaviors, this is likely consensual play. I would not be too concerned about this behavior unless it becomes consistent. Your older cat may just feel like being alone or your younger cat may just be feeling off. A good first step is making sure each cat has their own access to food, water, litter, and perches they can get away from each other so that the cats can establish their areas without having to compete for resources. A good second step is to add in a pheromone collar or diffuser, which can help reduce inter-cat aggression and make things less stressful. In some cases, a younger cat may bully an older cat if there is an underlying health problem going on. A vet visit to rule out any pain or illness that could be making Mr. Winkle the target of this attention may help reduce the problem as well. Harry is still a kitten. It is normal for kittens to be much more "aggressive" in their playing techniques. The key is to get them to play more appropriately. The first thing I would do is to work on environmental enrichment for Harry. One of my favorite things for cats is a no bowl feeding system like Doc & Phoebe ( https://docandphoebe.com/ ) that requires them to "hunt" for their food. You could also try a feeding ball. Cats can exhibit mounting behavior of other cats and objects like pillows. The behavior is generally benign (there is not penetration) unless one cat bites the back of the neck too hard (this could break the skin an cause an abscess). Most cats will not tolerate this and will let the other cat know. Certainly stop the behavior is one cat is being bullied or there is a risk of physical harm.
