My nursing cat's nipple is bruised. Is this normal or serious?

Updated on September 23, 2025

Nursing 1 yo cat.. 7 kittens. She has a nipple that's a bit bruised looking. Is that normal and kittens are healthy. But she's started doing shorter feeds I assume due to discomfort

Hello, congratulations on your new kittens. Yes occasionally their nipples may become purple because of an infection, because of the kittens nibbling not he nipple, of from the excessive milk production. Monitor the bruising to make sure it is not getting worse. If the bruising is getting worse, then she may need to be seen by her veterinarian to make sure she does not have an infection. Hope this helps and best of luck.
