My new kitten is sneezing with discharge. What to do while traveling?

I'd be a bit worried about Pringels. I can give you some things you can do for him at home. First, you can try starting him on an L-lysine supplement - this is an amino acid that has been shown to help the immune system fight off respiratory infections more effectively. Enisyl and Viralys are both good brands, and can be purchased over the counter without a prescription - just follow the dosing instructions on the label based on your cat's weight. If he's congested, you can also try using a humidifier or bringing him into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections. If his symptoms get worse or continue, have him seen by a vet.

If the discharge from his nose is clear then you can just monitor him. Hopefully he can clear the viral infection. If he is lethargic, not eating, and/or the discharge changes to yellow or green he would need to see a Veterinarian for antibiotics. I would clear his nose a couple of times a day and you can keep him in a steamy bathroom twice a day for 10-15 mins. Be sure that you start Pongkoys kitten vaccinations in the next 1-2 weeks. Aw poor Socks! It's pretty common to have a rescue kitten develop upper respiratory infections. I'm glad to hear he's acting normally otherwise. You can try to run a hot shower and steam up the bathroom while Socks is in the room. Sometimes this will help break up congestion. Make sure he continues to eat and drink normally. Warming some canned food up will often encourage a cat to eat more as they will eat more if they can smell the food. If Socks continues to be congested or at any point he stops eating, develops an eye issue, or becomes lethargic he should be examined by a veterinarian. It's best not to wait too long as kittens can develop pneumonia or labored breathing if the respiratory infection progresses. I do not understand why the shelter will not treat them. They are young and I assume otherwise healthy kittens. If their symptoms can be treated, they would be highly adoptable. They need to see a veterinarian. Perhaps the shelter can reimburse you for their visit? In the meantime, encourage them to eat and drink. You can place them in the bathroom while you shower. This is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops and oral antibiotics and cats usually respond well to therapy. I recommend that you have Deimos evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If they agree that based on an examination, that seems to be the issue, they will likely prescribe medications to make him feel better. Hello. If your kitten is sneezing and has discharge from her nose and eyes, this could be either viral or bacterial. If it is viral the discharge is usually clear and Baby Orange should still be eating/drinking and playing normally, unless she has a fever. If the discharge is yellow/cream/green then there is likely a bacterial component that requires antibiotics. Depending on your area there are different antibiotic choices for bacterial infections including amoxicillin/clavulanic acid or doxycycline. I would recommend having your kitten checked by a vet to see if antibiotics are required, and which is the best for the area you are in, and also to get a proper formulation and dose, as improper antibiotic use can make Baby Orange very sick.
