How to get my kitten to sleep alone in the kitchen without crying?

The best solution is to let him go wherever he wants in the house, this is your best chance at getting some sleep, but kittens this age are very active at night and you can expect intensive night action for the next 3 months.

It sounds like Ginger is experiencing some level of distress, whether or not its due to separation or a need for attention is very hard to say. I would consider adding some Feliway Diffusers into the home. They can be found on Amazon or at a local pet store. They send out pheromones into the environment that aim to calm the cat. They also make direct sprayers that you can put onto objects or even directly onto the kitty himself. If this sort of thing works, it usually doesn't happen overnight. Another option, which may not be possible and might sound insane, would be getting a second kitty. Ginger just may need a friend to keep her company when you aren't around. There are also pharmaceutical interventions that can be given if what Ginger is experiencing is truly anxiety. A behavioral work up by a trainer or vet at your home would be very helpful in this case just to get a full idea of the entire situation. I hope one of these tips can give you some peace at night.

Well, you’re both right. Halley has trained you well! She has figured out that if she cries, you will come and play. But on the other hand, an 8 week old kitten really can be very stressed and upset about being all alone. I’d consider a compromise like keeping her in a little carrier at night in your room. That way she can see and smell you at least. Try to comfort and pet her when she is NOT crying so that she learns that meowing is not the way to get things. Best wishes to you and Halley!

It is important to give him lots of love, attention and play time. However, it is equally important that he is left alone to have nap time. He is rapidly growing and developing and much of this happens while his body rests. When you need to leave him alone, be sure to play with him first. This will help to tire him out. Then keep him in a small safe area such as a bedroom. Make sure that he has access to his litterbox, food and water. He will likely nap most of the time you are gone and play alone some. Try to pick up on his ques that he is becoming annoyed BEFORE he tries to bite or scratch. Watch his face, ears and tail and stop holding him or petting him. Kittens are rambunctious and will eventually grow out of a lot of the scratching and biting as long as you aren't pushing their personal boundaries. Cats are naturally nocturnal and will b e more active at night. You can try to train him to sleep better at night by limiting daytime naps. You have only had him for a week, give yourself and Mason some time to figure out a routine! Good luck!
