Why is my 7-month-old kitten pooping everywhere and his bottom red?

He may be constipated or have a partial rectal prolapse. Veterinary attention is recommended to diagnose the underlying cause prior to treatment. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites which are a common cause of the symptoms described, especially in kittens.

This area is very inflammed and looks sore. I recommend a veterinary exam to deworm her and check this area. She may need medication to soothe the skin and they can check to make sure her rectal opening is normal. It’s to hard to tell from just the photo. Cute kitten! I would advise a visit with your veterinarian to determine whether this is a medical problem or a behavioral problem. After an good history taking and exam, your vet can then advise tests to begin to diagnose any problems. Fecal tests, blood tests, x-rays, etc could all be possible tests. Once a diagnosis is made whether it's medical or behavioral, a sound treatment plan can be instituted to get Vader past this problem. I wish you good luck.

I would wash it gently with a mild soap and rinse very well. If you have any a and d ointment or other diaper rash cream available then a very small amount of that applied and rubbed in well is appropriate. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Hugo. Yes, I do recommend that he sees his veterinarian. The diarrhea can be a result of his underlying gastrointestinal disease or a separate new problem. He may have urinated outside of the box as he is not feeling well. I suspect his veterinarian will want to test both urine and fecal samples though to determine how best to treat him. I hope this information helps!

It looks like Coco may have a small amount of rectal tissue prolapsed. This can occur if they have parasites, chronic diarrhea, foreign body or constipation. I recommend having her checked for intestinal parasites and possibly adding water to her food to help her pass stool more easily. If she is vomiting or showing any other signs of illness she should see a pet ASAP.
