Why is my kitten's neck hole leaking milk after feeding tube removal?

Hi and thanks for your request. From the picture it does not look like it is extremely inflamed but the leakage is concerning, especially if particularly persistent. It is unlikely that the wound is open and if she is fine in herself there is room to wait and monitor her. I would recommend to have her checked if the leakage persist in the next 24 hours.

You can try putting some neosporin on it twice a day. If it isn’t healing then I would have your vet take a look at it. She may need oral antibiotics or there could be a parasite in it causing the hole. I hope this helps!

Hello. I am so sorry that this has been so stressful. Most surgeries go off without a hitch, sometimes there are complications. This looks like a piece of suture, that may have been in the underlying muscle layer, may be trying to or has already migrated out. For now, just gently clean the area with a skin antiseptic like Hibiclens ( available at any pharmacy ) twice a day. Just dab it on & leave it. I would gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep an eye on this hole, and if it becomes red, swollen, warm to the touch, or there is pus it is infected and Kaia will need to see a vet for antibiotics.

Oh Chandler, what a naughty kitty. They are so good at removing their cone! It looks like there is a little prolapsed tissue there likely from where he opened the incision. As long as he keeps his cone on overnight it will likely be okay to see you vet tomorrow. They can then make sure he doesn't need a suture and/or antibiotics. Not eating or lethargy are also signs to watch for. This may be a suture reaction, an inflammatory reaction to the sutures used. If concerned you may want to call the shelter to find out if their vet or technician offers rechecks of their surgical patients.

Ideally the wound should be covered by using a plaster (primapore), a pet shirt or a net bandage. Please post a picture of it on the forum so we will be able to give you a more specific answer and advices on how likely an infection is. Antibiotics might be needed.
