Why is my kitten lethargic, has diarrhea, and won't drink water?

Based on your description, I am quite concerned she may be dehydrated and may have some systemic disease or infection going on. Hi and thanks for your post! It is hard to say what exactly the issue with Ollie is sight unseen without examining her first, but I can offer a few insights. Parasites, viral infections (especially if not up to date on her core vaccines), dietary indiscretion (eating something other than her normal kitten food) or an intestinal obstruction can all cause vomiting and diarrhea. Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Lethargy & diarrhea is quite concerning in such a young kitten. I am a bit worried about dehydration, even with him drinking. Most of these issues are due to intestinal parasites, such as roundworms & coccidian. Your worming tablet may take care of the roundworms, but you really need to have the stool examined for any other problems. A consult with your veterinarian will be most beneficial in getting Beans onto the road to great health. Take care.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Because this has been going on for so long, I recommend taking Nuru to a vet for a physical exam and a stool sample test. He could have microscopic parasites that need to be treated. Not all dewormer medications treat all intestinal parasites so it helps to know what he has. If that test is negative, I would recommend an infectious disease test (leukemia/FIV). If all that is normal, the vet can discuss his nutrition. Good luck and kisses to Nuru!

Loss of appetite and diarrhea can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Otto evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Nami! At 6 weeks old Nami should be on 100% kitten food. She no longer needs formula. It could be her diet or the formula causing the diarrhea. Other causes of diarrhea in a kitten are: intestinal parasites and viral or bacterial infections. The blood indicates inflammation in the colon and the blood tends to show up with severe diarrhea or diarrhea occurring for several days. If Nami is eating and no longer vomiting I would eliminate the formula and the food you think upset her stomach. If the diarrhea isn't better in 2 days then bring a stool sample and have her seen by a Vet. If she won't eat or vomits again she needs to be seen. I wish Nami the best!
