My kitten had bloody urine & cystitis, but is better. What now?

Yes, it certainly is possible that Tippy has a urinary problem causing this bleeding and blood in the urine, such as a UTI or bladder stones. Given that she is eating normally and is behaving normally, you can wait until tomorrow to take her into the vet. The vet can a physical exam, blood tests, and urinalysis to diagnose what is causing these symptoms so she can be treated.

Unfortunately you will not be able to just order an antibiotic online. This may not be a urinary tract infection and could be what we call a sterile cystitis. You could start by ensuring she is drinking plenty of water (recirculating water fountains help), switch to canned food and start a supplement called paxon or cranberry supplement treats for cats, which can be found online. If the symptoms are no better, the next step would be to have her seen by a veterinarian for testing and further treatment. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. It could be a UTI, which would need antibiotics. Other possible causes include urinary bladder stones or congenital changes with the bladder or urethra. Since I am not sure exactly what is going on, I can't really tell you what to do. If you have access to antibiotics, you can try that, but we can't prescribe them online as it is illegal for us to do so.

I am sorry to hear about your kitty! Usually it will take a few days for the antibiotics to show marked improvement. That being said, urine in the blood if there was a large amount may take a few days more to improve. If her other symptoms (urinary urgency or accidents) are improved I would be less concerned. If at the end of the week she is still having blood I would let your vet know as they may want to check for things like a bladder stone or mass which could be causing bleeding.

This could be due to an infection that is resistant to the antibiotics being given or it could be something else like stones or a tumor. I highly recommend that you consider taking Tao to his veterinarian for reevaluation. Diagnostics that should be considered at this point include a urine culture to make sure that if there is an infection, you know which antibiotic would be best to use. Cats normally don't have an infection associated with cystitis (bladder inflammation), so it's definitely possible that she would resolve the inflammation on her own. They actually tend to get cystitis that is related to stress, so it would be good to see if there is something new and potentially stressful in the environment. One big thing I worry about with cystitis is blockage of the urethra (the tube that takes urine from the bladder to the outside world). If you all-of-a-sudden notice that she's not urinating and she is acting abnormally sleepy, then I would definitely advise a visit to the vet to make sure she's not blocked. If she is still urinating, but not as frequent, then it is less of an emergency. However, it is still a good idea to have her evaluated by a veterinarian, because there could be something else going on that you are not aware of.

Poor Otis. I recommend to have Otis examined by the veterinarian again today. Sometimes the bladder can be injured or even ruptured and the blood could be related to that and may need to be addressed quickly. The doctor may need to take another radiograph to check for a bladder rupture. I hope he gets better quickly and please feel free to post any additional questions.
