My kitten ate Benadryl and has an eye infection. Is it serious?

This is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops and cats usually respond well to therapy. I recommend that you have Bubbles evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Thank you for sending pictures as well- this is very helpful. The eyes (right eye especially) do look very infected. Eye infections in kittens are usually caused by a virus and is best treated with antibiotics and sometimes antiviral medications and supplements such as Lysine. Sometimes these infections can cause the kitten to rub excessively around the eyes which can cause the area around the eye to become very red and inflamed. Batshiva does really need to see a veterinarian for this so she can get properly treated. Eye infections can lead to lead to more serious conditions or the eye so it is best that she is seen sooner rather than later. I hope this helps and I hope she can see a veterinarian soon!

Hi and thank you for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It looks as if Chiplo's eye may be infected. Sometimes if young cats or kittens are exposed to the Feline Herpes Virus or Calicivirus, these viruses can cause upper respiratory infections as well as ocular infections. Chiplo may need to be treated with your vet and placed on antibiotics for the eye infection. There is not a lot that can be done at home for an eye infection like this- your best bet is to visit her veterinarian. I hope this helps and thanks again for your post.

Most likely no, your kitten will not die from green eye boogers and a raised 3rd eyelid. I recommend going to your vet who will likely prescribe a topical opthalmic antibiotic ointment or drops. He/she may also recommend a fluorescein stain of the eyes to rule out corneal scratches/ulcers. It is possible that after the infection/inflammation is resolved, the third eyelid may return to normal. Feline herpes virus infections in kittens can often lead to secondary bacterial eye infections. Viral infections can not generally be treated but lysine supplements/paste may be helpful in boosting your kitten’s immune system while being treated for a bacterial eye infection. Good luck!

That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. Antibiotics (eye drops) for human beings can be used (chloramphenicol 0,5 % three times daily for a week). If no improvement are seen a check up would be required. It is likely that Curdles has an upper respiratory infection, which is pretty common in kittens. He needs to see a veterinarian so that an appropriate medication can be prescribed. Clavamox is often used for routine symptoms, but the eyes should be checked immediately for corneal ulcers, as these are quite complicated and need specific eye medications.
