How to check my cat's mouth, eyes, and rear when she resists?

Cats can be so hard to give medications to sometimes! They are total pains. Do you have someone who can help you? Someone to hold Kasper and offer her treats while you apply the medication. Leave out special food like boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in an attempt to get her to trust you again.

Hello. You will need to get just a little bit tough with Pookie. You need to scruff her & tilt her head back so that her nose is pointed straight up. This will actually relax her jaw a bit where you can introduce the syringe into the side of her mouth. Drip the Metacam in & then praise her well. Based on the photos, it looks likes the lesion on Vivian's mouth is getting a little worse. I'm thinking she either has an infection that is the primary cause or is having an allergic reaction with a secondary infection. Unless the issue becomes chronic, I would not suspect allergies. At home tips would be to wash (and rinse) the area with a plain antibacterial soap daily. Take care not to get this in her mouth as she may vomit. You have to be careful with cats applying any topical medication since the ingest the product when they groom. I would think Vivian licks the side of her mouth so I would not recommend to apply anything to it. Try switching her food to a different protein source and see if that helps. It will take at least one month before you know if it works or not. Keep in mind if this diet change does not work, that is does not mean that food allergies are not present. Pets can have many types of food allergies. There's also a potential for environmental allergies. If the lesions continues to worsen, take her in to see the veterinarian.

It sounds painful for her :( Honestly, she probably does have a bad tooth (or teeth). You should get her to your vet for an exam so they can get a better look inside her mouth. It is also very common for cats to ulcers/tumors in their mouth so that is another option. Your vet can check for this as well. In the meantime you can feed her soft foods like canned food or human baby food. The other option is to put warm water on the dry food and let it soak for a few minutes to soften it before feeding it to her. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! I feel your pain and believe you. Most cats when they are at the Vet act like Willow because they are scared. At home I would be careful on how and where you touch her. Most cats only like being pet or scratched around the neck, face and ears. Watch for signs of her being done with the touching: turning to look at you, flicking her ears or tail. When you see subtle signs like that you should stop touching her. You definitely can try a calming collar and over the counter calming treats to see if it helps. I would try tuna or canned food or something special for her and bring the bowl to her. I would offer her some and if she does not eat then place a small amount in her mouth and see her reaction. If she slings or drools and overly disgusted by it, then I would stop and let her be, you don't want to create any food aversions for the future. if she swallows it then you can try a little more.

Poor kitties can get so scared when going to the veterinarian. Some veterinarians are More comfortable with cranky cats than others. You may want to call you veterinarian and ask for a sedative to give her before you bring her in. This may be enough to allow the doctor to examine her well. If not, they may need to give her a little more sedation once she is there. I find that it is much less stressful to the kitty, and all involved if you use sedation in these circumstances.
