Cat went outside, has yellow egg-like things in eyes, ears, fur. Help!

Those could be tapeworm segments. Also possible is some sort of fruit seed. The head of the tapeworm is buried in the lining of the gut. Reproductive packets break off the other end of the worms and pass out with stool or can crawl out of the rectum on their own. When they dry up, the look like seseme seeds. Tapeworms are only spread by eating fleas. Over the counter tapeworm dewormer does not commonly get the type of tapeworm that cats tend to get so I recommend to see your veterinarian, bring in a fresh sample of your cat’s stool as well as some of the yellow objects. Hello. These are definitely tape worm segments. When you deworm your cat again, make sure it says it takes care of tapeworms. Also, be sure you are using a good flea preventative regularly, as this is the most common way that cats pick up tapeworms. The other way is through hunting & eating small prey. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! If you are finding white rice sized segments around Katniss's tail then I suspect you are seeing tape worm segments. Cats get tape worm from fleas and from hunting. You can always post a picture to confirm. I would deworm her with a product that gets tapeworm. No need to freak out.... Even though your kitty is an indoor cat she could have been infected with tape worm by a flea you brought in from the outside. This does look somewhat like dried up tapeworm segments. Check her bum once in a while and you may see one crawling around the behind or tail, or a dried up one. It is easy to get rid of them by giving your cat a wormer that contains praziquantel, available from your vet. These tapeworms are not contagious to humans.

It sounds like your cat(s) have tapeworms. Most commonly, these are contracted when your cat's are grooming themselves and swallow adult fleas. Typically, where there are tapeworms, there are or have been fleas. Tapeworms require specific dewormers and the safest ones are available through your veterinarian.

Tapeworms have an indirect life cycle, so the only way to become infected is by swallowing an infected flea or eating a dead animal that was infected (rodents, etc.) So don't worry overly much about any segments or eggs in the environment you may have missed. Keep Rhiley on a good quality monthly flea preventative like Advantage Multi or Revolution. If she hunts and eats things, then I would recommend deworming her routinely every 3-6 months to prevent any problems.

I'm sorry to hear all happened! I bet you both and Prince were traumatized!!! The good news is that tapeworms are only spread by eating a flea that has eaten a baby tapeworm. So your wife cannot get tapeworms unless she eats a flea. Visceral or ocular larval migrans come from a intestinal worm called a Roundworm. These infestations can occur if the roundworm egg is eaten (aka not washing hands after handling Prince or cleaning the litter box, potentially letting Prince lick your mouth). The eggs would not be likely to develope in the eye BUT you should thoroughly flush out her eye and I would call her doctor to make sure they do not have any additional recommendations. Bacteria could be present and cause other problems. If the worm larva migrate to the eye, it will cause blindness. Additionally, I would recommend to have a fecal test run on Prince and appropriate deworming medication administered. Also, get Prince on flea prevention as this is where he got the tapeworms.
