My cat is weak, struggling to breathe, and in pain. What should I do?

This is an emergency and you need to take your kitty to a veterinarian or PetER right away. Respiratory distress is very serious and your cat will need a thorough exam, possibly oxygen, and supportive care. He is purring because he is ill and is trying to appease everyone around him. The signs of illness are very unspecific so please take your cat to the ER now.

Sunshine probably has an upper respiratory infection, or cold. As this is a viral infection It will run its course in a week or so. As long as she's just quiet and resting, eating a drinking some then you do not need to bring her in. If she should stop eating, the eye and nose discharge turns green and she becomes very lethargic then she may have a secondary bacterial infection that would need to be treated by your veterinarian. Sunshine is an older cat so if she's not recovering well then don't wait too long to bring her for an exam. Poor Tate sounds quite painful! It's very important to not give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. You need to keep Tate as calm as possible, as stress will cause him to breathe even more rapidly. Place in him a quiet, small, and dark room of his own while you call around to find a vet on call or an ER vet to see him now. His symptoms constitute a medical emergency, please take him into a vet ASAP.

This is an emergency. I'm sorry that there is not a near by vet but your cat needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately. I worry if you wait, things may just get worse. Please call the nearest ER and ask them for advice on the best way to get your cat to them.

Kasia sounds very ill, and I would consider her symptoms a medical emergency. She needs veterinary care now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. It sounds like Tiger may have an upper respiratory infection, However other more concerning problems such as pneumonia or feline asthma are also possibilities. I would encourage you to take him into a bathroom and run the shower to humidify him. Warm up the food to try to encourage his appetite. If he isn’t interested in food then try low sodium chicken broth to encourage fluid intake. You also may want to to contact a house call veterinarian to come to you. Tiny sounds very sick and I'm quite concerned about him. Without seeing him in person, I cannot narrow down what is going on with him. The best thing to do is take him into a vet immediately. The vet can examine him and possibly do blood tests and a urinalysis to diagnose what is causing his symptoms so he can be treated. I hope this helps!
