My cat threw up bile and won't use the litter box. Is he okay?

Hi. Unfortunately, there are many possibilities let causes of vomiting and not eating. This can range from something they ate upsetting the tummy, toxins, parasites, or even a foreign object in the GI tract that he swollen that could be stuck. The last one we get very suspicious of in young kitties. I would highly recommend getting Bart in to the ER this evening.

It is not uncommon when pets have not been eating or drinking well to have more extended time between visits to the box. It your kitty was a bit dehydrated from being sick this will also mean less urine in the box too. As it seems that your kitty is feeling better with the care your vet provided i would give it a little time. If he or she is eating then things should normalize. If he or she starts to feel sick again then dehydration may make things worse, and a recheck with your vet is then advised. Batman likely does not feel good and could even be in pain. Just like people, there are many conditions that can make pets feel sick. This could range from bacterial over growth to intestinal blockage. Also like us, diseases are best addressed early and this may result in a better prognosis. I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian today. The doctor will need to learn the underlying cause in order to give appropriate treatment. Bring in a stool sample in case the doctor needs to test it. Batman could even have something like a broken bone or a back injury. I hope Batman starts feeling better quickly! I would give Ostin a few days to settle down and get used to being inside. If he hasn't used his litter box, bringing him to it so he can explore it, or bringing in a little substrate he prefers to go potty in (such as some dirt from the garden) and mixing it with the litter may make it more obvious to him where he needs to go. If he continues to act lethargic, doesn't use the bathroom at all, or shows other signs of illness, an exam with your vet is best to make sure there isn't anything else going on.

As long as he is eating and drinking, and using the litter box, I would monitor him for now. If he stops eating, stays very lethargic over the next 24 hours, stops drinking water, stops using the litter box, or develops other symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea, I would take him into a vet right away. Poor Binx! Yes, this is a vet visit when a cat is both vomiting and having diarrhea as well as being very lethargic. I'm concerning he's throwing up water as well, and that can quickly lead to dehydration. I'm sorry to hear that Lily has been feeling so poorly today. As Dr. Melanie mentioned, lethargy and a loss of appetite can be due to many underlying health conditions. Since she seems to prefer laying down, it's also possible that she's experiencing some degree of pain or discomfort. Some of these possible conditions include pancreatitis, infectious diseases (FIV, feline leukemia, FIP, etc.), constipation, kidney disease, liver disease, toxin exposure (did she eat a plant, medication or something else she shouldn't have?), or many other conditions. The fact that she hasn't been using the litter box normally might be a sign that she is dehydrated, even though she's drinking water when it's placed in front of her. At this point, it would be best to take Lily to her vet fairly urgently for evaluation. Your vet will need to examine her and will likely recommend some diagnostic testing, which may include blood work, an ultrasound or x-rays, to get to the bottom of this issue.
