Why is my cat's third eyelid swollen and neck lymph node enlarged?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Hazel. In this picture, both third eyelids look to be in their correct positions. The conjuctiva (lining to eyelid) of the left lower lid is very swollen. It is possible that the kitten scratched his eye while they were playing. He may also have an eye infection. He will likely need to see his veterinarian for a closer evaluation and medication. In the meantime, do not allow him to scratch the eye. I hope this information helps you and Hazel!

Swollen glands can be due to a number of things, sometimes they are reacting to an infection, sometimes they swell for no real reason and sometimes it is a cancer called lymphoma. In Albert's case I would not be overly worried as he is so young, but I would definitely have him checked as the vet will know better how much swrlling is significant. He may have an infection that needs treated or the vet may want to sample the lump to get a definite diagnosis.

It looks as though Nash’s third eyelid on his right eye is elevated. The third eyelid can raise for a variety of different conditions, including viral infection, eye inflammation, a corneal ulcer/abrasion, Horner’s syndrome, among many others. Particularly since eye problems can change and progress so rapidly, it’s important to have Nash examined by your vet. Until then, be sure to put an ecollar (cone) on Nash to prevent him from scratching or rubbing at this eye, as that will make matters worse. I hope that he’s on the mend soon!

It is not a specific sign for one particular disease but it often means that a cat has fever, has breathing problems, has abdominal discomfort, muscle or joint pain. Please, take Lancelot to your local vets tomorrow for full clinical examination. Your vet may recommend a blood test or abdominal scan to find out what is going on. Good luck !

That sounds serious. I recommend to get Kitty into see the veterinarian today. Fungal infections and trauma are the main things that come to mind although a tumor or a significant reaction to a foreign object in the nose may look like this. She needs to be evaluated and start the process of figuring out whats causing all this. Unfortunately, there's really nothing you can do as the process is internal. I am so sorry that your pet is not doing well. The swelling is likely due to infection (bacterial or viral) or an inflammatory response to some kind of allergy. There are lymph nodes on the neck near the jawline. I would definitely get Runiyah seen by your vet to have this swelling looked at and also to get her temperature to make sure she is not running a fever. Cats with really painful eyes (such as from a scratch to the cornea or something stuck in the eyelids) will elevate their third eyelids to help protect the eye. Though some types of neck injuries can damage a nerve to works in the face and can also cause this to happen. Since I am concerned that this beautiful kitty is in pain, I would recommend taking her to the emergency vet. After the examination, discuss financial constraints with the vet to determine what can be done to alleviate pain but still fit within the budget you have set. Many times we are able to come up with plans B and C to do what we can to help the pet!
