My healthy calf has sunken eyes. Is this normal or a concern?

That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. If the temporal and parietal muscles has been like that since you had him then I would not be worried about it as it may be due to congenital conformation. If otherwise you noticed a deterioration in the last month or so, then a check up would be ideal as lack of innervation (trigeminal nerve inflammation, or miositis of the masticatory muscles may be present).

It is difficult to determine due to the lighting/color of the image. Pythons eyes will bulge out a bit and some have a genetic defect that causes pronounced bulging. This is not normal. Monitor for discharge, cloudiness or redness. If the bulging is just on one side, that is also cause for concern (tumor, trauma, infection) and should be addressed by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles.

Hello there, Thanks for the good photo. Good work with the benadryl and saline eye flush- those are great first steps. She is likely fine to wait to see her regular veterinarian, as long as she still has energy and an appetite. It appears like her face may have some muscular muscle wasting that is allowing her eyes to protrude more. There are a few things that can cause this- your vet will be able to tell you more after a good physical exam. I'd get her in to see someone this week for sure.

I am so sorry that Tommy is sick. When animals are severely dehydrated their eyes recess deep into their sockets and can appear “swallowed up from the inside”. You may also be seeing the elevated third eyelid flap over the other eye. It sounds like Tommy is in critical condition if he is that dehydrated He needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian immediately as it can be fatal. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.

Yes, I would be a bit worried. She may have some retained placenta or a uterine tear from the dystocia. If either of those are the case, she could end up with a life-threatening bacterial infection. I suggest you get your vet out there to check her out. It is better to be safe than sorry in this instance. Best wishes.
