Does my spayed female cat need neutered food or a urinary diet?
Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with the foods that are available in Turkey, but in general kitten food is higher in protein and fat for growing kittens. And as you found, a spayed cat will gain weight on that. I would suspect that a neutered cat food would be formulated to be slightly lower in calories than a regular adult cat food since their metabolism decreases slightly when a cat is neutered. That would be why Balim lost weight on that formula. If she is active enough to maintain her weight, I would supsect that a regular adult cat food is fine, but if she starts to gain too much weight, a neutered cat food may help prevent her from gaining weight as she gets older. Finally, we do not tend to see the same problems with the urethra in female cats that we do in male cats (but can see some bladder problems). I generally don't recommend feeding a special diet like that until a cat has a problem.
I hope that was helpful and answered your questions. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
