My cat is too skinny and has an upset stomach. What should she eat?

You can find a feline probiotic to add to her diet or try a sensitive stomach formula food or a prescription such as Science Diet I/D. If this does not improve the stool she may need to see a vet. Older cats can get an inflammatory bowel disease and stress can definitely make it worse. It will take some vitamin supplements and daily medication but usually improves by then. If not then they will look into further testing such as an ultrasound or a biopsy.

Kittens need higher amounts of calories, protein, and calcium than adult cats in order to grow properly, and a kitten formulated food would provide that for him. If he seems to be skinnier, I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can weigh him and do a physical exam to determine if he is too skinny and losing, and can discuss with you reasons why this might be happen (such as food intolerances), and how to treat it.

It is possible Coco has intestinal parasites. You would need to submit a stool sample to your veterinarian for confirmation. A physical exam would be recommended to rule out other causes. If intestinal parasites are diagnosed, your veterinarian can dispense or administer the appropriate dewormer. It may need to be repeated in 2, 4 and 6 weeks. He should be eating a quality kitten food. Fish alone is not a balanced diet for a growing kitten. Discontinue the milk as well since it may cause stomach upset.

Given her age there are several things that cross my mind, but a common issue in these young kittens is parasites. Sometimes their parasite burden can be so high that they cannot maintain adequate glucose levels, and also can become uninterested in food and sometimes will begin vomiting. I would recommend deworming her. Also, it would be important to rule out signs of infection and/or sepsis. I think she needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away. With gastrointestinal disease, sometimes the intestines are just unable to absorb nutrients regardless of the type of food you feed. So, it is important to feed Elvis whatever he will eat. There are no natural remedies, as there is no quick medical fixes, either. Oral steroids often help for a while, but then other medications are often needed. You can try some of the cat foods labeled as sensitive stomach or sensitive skin. The best ones are made by Science Diet & Royal Canin. I would also try him on a good probiotic, like Purina's FortiFlora. It really does seem to help some of these cats with GI issues. I hope this helps Elvis with his weight loss & vomiting.

I would continue to monitor Cleo and maybe offer her some tuna and white rice to help settle her stomach. If she goes more than 24 hrs without eating or seems to get worse st any point then it's best to take her to your vet for evaluation and treatment depending on the underlying cause. She could have eaten something that upset her stomach or have an internal illness that is found out through diagnostic testing (bloodwork, radiographs, etc). Have you had Skittle checked out by a vet for this weight loss? It could be due to something serious like kidney failure, liver disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or even cancer. She needs to see a vet asap for this weight loss, and I would recommend getting a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis. Please take her into her vet in the morning. I would not give any supplementary food until after she sees her vet. Best of luck.
