My cat's poop is cold right after pooping. What does it mean?

If this lasts more than 48 hours, or if your kitty has any other worrisome signs (loss of appetite, vomiting, lethargy), it’s time to see your vet. Best of luck to you and your cat!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I have seen cats that are constipated leave hard pieces of stool randomly over the house. I would have your Vet do an exam and take a belly X-ray to evaluate for constipation. Constipation is a symptom of an underling condition: sudden dehydration from an illness, kidney disease or intestinal disease (IBD or intestinal cancer). Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Runiyah is adorable! I do not think the not pooping or the poop coming out and going back in has to do with the rectal temperature. I would leave her be and check the litter box tomorrow. As long as she is eating, acting normal and not vomiting she should poop soon. If it's more than 2 days with out a bowel movement contact your Vet. I wish you both the best!

It sounds like Sassy might be a bit incontinent which could be a sign of a UTI, or even a problem with arthritis (involving spinal nerves that help control the muscles that help hold in the urine/feces. It is also possible that she is so relaxed when she sleeps that all the muscles relax extensively to the point that she is not holding in her eliminations. I suggest you take her to your vet for a general exam to rule out a urinary tract infection or arthritis. If the veterinarian cannot find anything wrong with her he may be able to prescribe a medication that helps with the control of the respective muscles.

As long as she is defecating regularly and not straining the firm stool may not be a concern. It is a little unusual for a/d to be recommended as a maintenance diet - you may want to check with your vet and see if there is another diet that would be recommended for Hopper given her constipation. This diet is very nutritionally dense, so it's possible that she's just not making much stool. If she has been straining, or you feel her stool looks black and tarry I would recommend making a recheck appointment with your veterinarian.

They could be a little soft at the end due to a little stress, a recent food change or other, but it appears mild at this time. If you’d like to do something to support Bogul, try a probiotic (my favorite is Purina Fortiflora- my cat LOVES it). If they become more soft at any point, or Bogul shows any other worrisome signs, see your vet at that point. Best of luck to you and Bogul!
