Is it safe to delay my cat's onion toxicity recheck blood test?

It is unlikely that Pepper will get poisoned by a few licks of broth with a few crushed onion pieces in it. There is no need to take her to an emergency vet. She would have to ingest a lot of onion in order to get anemia from it. Should she get lethargic or get white gums, have your vet give her an exam, but as I said, it is very unlikely that Pepper will get ill.

Recheck that bloodwork. If everything is normal, then it is OK to wait a year for follow-up bloodwork, but things can change pretty quickly as pets age, so it is not abnormal to monitor bloodwork every 3-6 months, depending on any extenuating circumstances. So, follow your instincts. No cat likes to go to the vet, but if you are concerned, it is always best to make sure things are OK sooner than waiting months for the next visit. It depends on the size of the piece of onion, but this normally would not be enough to cause toxicity, so I wouldn't worry too much. The biggest concern with onion toxicity is that it destroys the red blood cells. This takes a few days to happen though. You may notice vomiting when they first eat the onion, but other signs of toxicity won't be obvious until 2-5 days later. Signs of onion toxicity are a dramatic decrease in activity and pale gums. If you notice this, then it's best to have Tabbi seen by a vet as soon as possible. It's definitely recommended to have a blood work done at her age before any procedure that requires anesthesia, it's absolutely fine to have it done the same day. the amount of blood drawn for the blood test is absolutely insignificant.
