My cat won't eat or drink, is losing weight, and has an eye infection.

Based on your description, I am quite concerned she may be dehydrated and may have some systemic disease or infection going on. The most common cause for an excessively teary eye is a viral upper respiratory tract infection and they can cause a fever. A fever can cause lethargy and not wanting to eat. Other possibilities are an injury to the eye that is painful. Since he isn't eating and lethargic he needs to be examined by a Vet. Cats shouldn't go longer than 2-3 days with out eating as they can get very sick from a secondary liver problem. I wish Allie a speedy recovery!

I wonder how old she is, her age would help us give you ideas on what could be going on. Since she is unspayed, she could have a uterine infection which is life threatening and requires an emergency spay surgery. Other causes are severe upper respiratory infection, feline leukemia, feline immunodeficiency virus, feline infectious peritonitis, cancer, kidney or liver disease, overactive thyroid, diabetes. The only thing I can suggest is to gently syringe feed her watered down and blenderized canned cat food and water. She sadly needs to see a Vet for a diagnosis once the weather is cleared. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Clementine. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian, today if possible. It is worrisome that she is refusing to eat and drink normally. Depending on her age, different diseases are more likely. Kittens are prone to respiratory tract infections and as well severe GI infections. Middle age cats are more likely to develop thyroid disorders, while older cats tend to suffer kidney problems. Of course there are other possibilities as well. Blood work and urine testing are common diagnostic tests. Her veterinarian will decide on testing and treatment options based on her exam findings. I hope this information helps!

I'm sorry to hear that Dr Bigotes seems to have an infection. The yellow discharge from the eyes is very common with conjunctivitis and/or ulcers and does require an eye antibiotic ointment to clear it up. Frequently cats will have a viral infection that can cause this problem as well. I would recommend using a warm compress for 5 minutes a few times a day on her eyes to help remove some of the discharge. You also can gently flush the eyes with sterile saline to remove some of the discharge to see if that makes her more comfortable. I am also very concerned that she is not eating. She may have something else going on that is causing her to loose her appetite, like an upper respiratory infection. You can try heating the food to make it smell more pungent to see if that helps her to smell it better and hopefully eat. Ultimately, I do think you need to take Dr Bigotes into your vet when you are able because she likely needs to have antibiotic ointment for her eyes and to look for an ulceration that may need further treatment. She also may need further treatment for the inappetence.

She needs to be examined by a veterinarian. Isolation behavior can be sign of stress and illnesses. Her eye could have an infection or a corneal ulcer for example.
