My cat hasn't eaten in 3 days and has muzzle discharge. What to do?

Since it sounds like KD never skips a meal, its possible he is getting sick. Just like people, there are many conditions that can make pets feel sick. This could range from bacterial over growth to intestinal blockage. Also like us, diseases are best addressed early and this may result in a better prognosis. I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian if he is not eating for 24 hours, not drinking well or if he is getting worse. The doctor will need to learn the underlying cause in order to give appropriate treatment. Bring in a stool sample in case the doctor needs to test it. I hope KD starts feeling better quickly! Shadow is a cutie. If he isn’t eating well for several days I strongly recommend a vet visit. Cats can stop eating whenever they don’t feel well which could be anything from a mild infection to a more serious disease. Since he has now started vomiting he may become dehydrated quickly. It sounds like an upper respiratory infection. They are common in cats and can be incredibly contagious to other cats. Make sure to wash your hands and change your clothes after dealing with Tom. Many of these infection are viral and simply have to run their course. Occasionally antibiotics are used to treat secondary bacterial infections. Cats don't like to eat if they can't smell, so if you can give him smellier foods, like tuna or some varieties of wet food, he may eat a little.

It sounds like your vet diagnosed her with an upper respiratory infection. Depending on the virus that causes this, the signs can appear in the eyes, nose or mouth. There is a virus called calicivirus that can cause sneezing and ulcers in the mouth. These can be quite painful and make the cat not want to eat. I typically recommend feeding a canned diet so she can lap it up rather than chew it. A/D is a good diet for this. It is made by Hill's and is available by prescription through a veterinarian. I also will sometimes prescribe pain medication to keep them comfortable and eating while they have ulcers in their mouths. I would recommend calling your veterinarian in the morning to discuss these things. We don't want her to go too long without eating.

Yes, nasal discharge can reduce the perception of smells and therefore reduce the appetite. Try to clean the nose with a wet cloth and offer different type of food. Upper respiratory disease in cats are quite common and sometimes can resolve without treatment but if Trio isn't eating and is getting thinner means that he might need specific treatment and support. I am a little uncertain on what is meant by loose motion, but if Chikoo is experiencing upper respiratory signs such as discharge from the nose or sneezing as your describe, and that is associated with decrease in appetite and decreased water consumption, he may need to visit his veterinarian as soon as possible. If he has a upper respiratory infection, he may need antibiotics and IV fluids if he is very dehydrated from not drinking. much. Best of luck to you!
