Hello. This is common behavior for a female cat that is in heat. Although 5-6 months is young, she is old enough to be starting her first heat cycle. You can have your veterinarian examine her to make sure and discuss spaying her if that is your wish.

My first thought is quite honestly that calico cats have a reputation for being chatty or vocal, and she may just be developing part of her personality at her age. The next thought is that she could have an uncommon condition that is causing her to go into heat despite her spay. Ectopic ovarian tissue (reproductive tissue that grows in an abnormal place) can cause this, as well as exposure to estrogen containing creams for humans. Unfortunately, it's hard to know if this is pathological or if she is in heat? I recommend to look up information on heat cycles and watch videos. Also record the behavior on video. If this is not a heat cycle or if you are unsure if it is, I recommend to have her examined and have the doctor watch the video. Hi and thank you for asking this question about your new kitten, Love. Yes, this type of vocalization is very normal in a kitten. They can be very communicative. If her belly seems very full and hard, she may be overeating and getting too much food at one time. Kittens also can have a round belly appearance from having intestinal parasites. I would recommend to take a fecal sample to her first veterinary visit when you schedule one so they can check her for parasites. Ideally you want the sample to be the same day as her appointment. Kittens do much better if they can eat small, frequent meals rather then two larger meals per day. This is because their stomachs are small and cannot hold a large amount of food at one time. If you can feed her 3-4 times/day 1/4 can of kitten wet food or 2-3 tbspns of dry food, this is better than two larger meals and easier for her to digest.

Other possible causes are: she sees other cats outside (territorial), anxiety (cats outside, starting heat, changes to house hold), attention seeking, or medical issue. I would close the blinds temporarily, provide environmental enrichment (cat trees, interactive cat toys, lazer pointer, play with her) and consider spaying her. It is quite likely she is in heat, especially if she is also calling or shouting loudly. If you do not want kittens, be sure to keep her indoors and isolated from any unneutered male cats until you can have her spayed
