My cat has a large scab that's been there for a month. What is it?

From the picture it looks like it may be a scab. I would watch for the next few days and see if it goes away. If it is not resolving then I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

A scab means it's healing, so I would just keep an eye on it for now. If you see signs of infection, it gets bigger, it starts to bother her, or it doesn't appear to be healing, then have Fatina seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

I would have this examined by a veterinarian to ensure there is no infection and to help give you a better answer after physically examining ming to give you the appropriate treatment recommendations. This scab could be due to a mild infection or perhaps some mild traumatic lesion. You can consider just monitoring for now if it is just one. If this gets worse or just does not resolve, have her evaluated by your veterinarian then. Is it a scab which could be related to a scratch or an infection. Without being able to move the hair around and feel the area, it's hard to say. Monitor it closely. If it is still there in 2 weeks or if it starts looking worse at any point, have your kitty examined. Please feel free to post any additional questions.

If Twilight allows, you can use an electric clipper to remove the fur around the area to keep it clean and get a better look. Hello, sorry to hear about your cat. The picture is a little blurry. It could be a scab from a small laceration that will heal on its own and you do not have to do anything about it. A single scab is not consistent with scabies, although, the only way to rule out scabies is by looking for it under a microscope. However, if there was scabies you see it more around the face, ears, and arms of cats. Make sure that Pussy has adequate, monthly flea control especially if she is scratching around her belly and tail/rump area. Hope this helps and best of luck.
