My cat's labor stopped, found a cold kitten. What should I do?

She may be taking a break due to strain. By now she should have resumed contractions and have delivered her kitten. If she stopped altogether having contractions, you can very GENTLY try to pull the kitten on both feet. If it does not move, or seem stuck, you will need to take your cat and the kittens to a vet for him to develop that stuck kitten.

While cats can have interrupted labor, it is concerning that Snickers has already had two dead kittens and it's been 12 hours since she had the last one. She may be having trouble giving birth, and may need veterinary help to give birth to the third. I would take her into a vet immediately for care. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

If you are able to grasp the stuck kitten and gently pull when the mother has contractions. This may allow you to get the kitten out. Then rub it down with a dry cloth to stimulate breathing. If the umbilical cord is still attached it may survive. If you can’t do that then take her right in for treatment. The vet will be able to determine whether there is another kitten or more than one, and whether there is a kitten blocking the birth canal. Your cat may need a cesarian section in case the kitten (if there is one) is too big to be born naturally. Please take her to a vet now.

Cats can stop birthing and then finish up to 24 hours later if they are disrupted by something. But it's rare and that doesn't seem to be the case in Cali's situation. So I think it's best to err on the side of caution and get Cali into the veterinarian's office right away. She may need help having the kittens or she may need a C-section. Hello, sorry to hear about Buttercup. She may be experiencing some post partum pain. This should improve in several days. Ensure Buttercup is getting adequate amount of food and water. You can offer her kitten food as well while she is nursing. She can eat as ofter as every 6 hours. If her meowing does not improve, if she does not want to eat or drink, she has tremors, or is weak and lethargic, haver her evaluated by your veterinarian immediately. Some kittens get weak and cold which can become life threatening. You can carry the kitten in your pocket to keep it warm and hold it onto the mother to nurse if possible. In addition the kitten may have been born with a medical problem and is not going to survive. Make sure the others are warm and nursing. Some new mothers are not as good at taking care of kittens as others, especially that many. That is a big litter so you may need to supplement the kittens with kitten milk replacer if the mother doesn’t have enough milk for all of them.
