Cat with IBS hasn't pooped in 4 days. What home remedies can I try?

You are better off giving him Miralax powder. The psyllium is a fiber that will bulk up the stools but it isn't really a laxative/stool softener. Megacolon can be very difficult to treat. I've had good results with Royal Canin's FIber Response diet so you could ask your vet about this prescription diet as an option for Bobi for long term management. It sounds like Bobi may be severely constipated now, and she may need to be hospitalized for IV fluids and multiple medications, or even manual deobstipation under anesthesia. There is also a surgery (subtotal colectomy) that can be performed that might help, so you could ask your vet about referral to a specialist.

I would not be overly worried about her not producing stools just yet. The metronidazole and the buprenorphine can both cause a decrease in gastric motility but moreso the buprenorphine. If she is still on the buprenorphine I would discontinue it unless you feel like she is still in a lot of pain. If she will eat it, you can offer her some canned pumpkin as that may help stimulate her GI tract. Pure canned pumpkin, not pie filling. About one teaspoon 2-3 times per day. I would also recommend you start her on a probiotic - one made for cats, not humans. I like this one but any one made for cats is fine. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Galaxy! I recommend cisapride, lactulose and Royal canine fiber response for constipated cats. Sometimes with the prescription diet it eliminates the need for most medications. If she isn't eating I would have her seen today and deobstipated (sedate and remove all feces) before the weekend. Then get the cisaride and food started. Sometimes refractory cases need partial removal of their colons. I wish you the best!

Poor Baby! If you are not comfortable giving the enema, I recommend to call your veterinarian and discuss your concerns. At this point, she may need more care than an enema. She may need fluids or a sedated enema. I also recommend to discuss a specific food made by Royal Canin called Fiber Response. It is formulated for cats with constipation and many cats will get relief within a few days. This diet baby needed lifelong. Hello.. I can suggest some possible remedies, but they may not work & his constipation will get much worse while you wait. Honestly, the best thing to do is to have Lucky seen as soon as possible. As he continues like this, he will get sicker. If he is eating, you can try 1/4 teaspoon in some wet food 2-3 times a day, but if he has stopped eating, there is no way for you to treat him at home. Hello. Is Fluffy sitting in the litter box trying to poop? I am not sure what fibo syrup has in it ( tried to research this product & can not find the ingredients ), but we use a product called Miralax here. It is also known as polyethylene glycol 3350. We will give 1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon with each meal of wet food. Try to increase fluid intake by offering chicken or beef stocks & broths, tuna water, & of course, fresh water. If Fluffy is eating, give her another 24 hours, but if she does not defecate, she may need professional help & you will need to have her evaluated by your veterinarian.
