Why is my cat crying and howling at reflections after travel?

There maybe something about your new duplex that is causing stress" the smell, the sounds, the size? I would try to enrich her environment: play with her, get cat trees for her to climb, get beds she can hide in, get shelves you can put at a window so she can watch the birds (get a bird feeder) and I would consider getting the Feliway diffuser to help calm her. Ultimately if time and the above do not help her settle in, you may need to discuss anti-anxiety medications with your Vet. Which I would anticipate would be temporary. Unfortunately, I don't have a great answer for you about Stella. If she is acting otherwise normal and not exhibiting signs of illness, you may just monitor her for now. Cats can be reactive to things we don't know about, she could be smelling a cat outside or even just able to see if. She could also be bored. I would say its possible there could be a medical issue like maybe an infection in her ears or her bladder but many cats have these without vocalizing. I'm not convinced the vocalization is a medical problem but you don't know unless you get it checked out! I would try to stimulate Stella. Buy a treat ball online and feed her out of that, purchase a cat tree with a hiding area on the top, purchase some new toys and set time aside each day to play. You could also use a Feliway Diffuser and see if that changes her behavior at all. I hope I have at least answered some of your questions. Please post again with anything else you think of.

Poor Wally! He may just be a very talkative cat. This will likely improve with time. In the mentine, you may want to try some feliway diffusers and spray in his favorite areas. Feliway is a cat pheromone that helps to calm some cats. It doesn't work on all cats though. You could also try some catnip as this may make him happy while you are away. Again, not all cats react the same to this. Finally, you can look into calming essential oil diffusers but you want to make sure you get one that is safe for cats. You can look into doterra or www.oilyvet.com for safe choices. If the anxiety gets really bad, I would have your vet prescribe an anti-anxiety medicine. I hope this helps!

Hi and thanks for posting! Aww poor Fanny- I like that name and cute picture of her. If the calming supplements do not seem to do the trick after a while and Fanny is still seeming stressed, then I would talk to Fanny's veterinarian about getting her on anti anxiety medication. There are lots of different medications your veterinarian may recommend. It may take 3-4 weeks to see any differences in her behavior, but this can really help especially if all other efforts have proven to be unsuccessful. If at-home treatments haven't been helping you may want to talk to your vet about a short-term sedative or anxiety medication that may help Watson during the transition and is a little more powerful than calming treats or pheromone diffusers. Once he seems settled in, you may then be able to gradually back off the medication and return to normal. Ruling out any health issues while you are there such as pain, blindness, hearing issues, etc may also be helpful as these can cause confusion and yowling in cats as well. Adding in a few nightlights, especially if Watson is an older cat that may have trouble seeing may help him calm down, especially if the yowling happens at night. Providing plenty of places for him to hide, perch, or explore safely may also help him to settle in.

An adult feral cat may have a difficult transition to being an indoor cat. If she is intact, the vocalizations and nighttime behaviors could indeed be heat related. Having her spayed may decrease those behaviors but may not completely eliminate them. Try a pheromone collar, spray or plug in diffuser to decrease any anxiety she may be experiencing. If that doesn't help, an exam with your veterinarian to diagnose any underlying cause would be recommended. If you think she would be happier back at the barn, have her spayed (if she isn't already) to prevent accidental or unwanted litters. Some cats prefer living outdoors and that's may be the case here.

I'm sorry for your loss! Harley may be feeling depressed or stressed about the loss of the other cat too. However, I would also be concerned that Harley may be showing these signs because he may be having health issues. You can try something like a Feliway diffuser to see if that helps with the behavior.
