My cat has HCM. Will a new rabbit stress him and worsen his condition?

I am sorry to hear about the tension between your pets. I would consider giving your cat a "safe" area of the house where the rabbit doesn't have access so he feels like he can come inside without fear. I would also recommend Feliway multicat diffusers https://www.feliway.com/us/Products/FELIWAY-MultiCat-Diffuser which can relieve tension and also consider a calming supplement such as Zylkene or Composure, which can be purchased online.

If your cat's respiratory signs are due to a virus, these are species-specific and not contagious to rabbits. However, if the respiratory issues are related to Mycoplasma or Chlamydia, these infections are contagious to rabbits. If testing has not been done on your cat to identify the precise cause of the respiratory signs, it would be best to keep your cat and rabbit separated until the respiratory signs have resolved. I hope this helps and that your cat is feeling better soon!

Hi and thank you for this question. Yes, in theory the same bacteria from your cats sneezing can cause snuffles to your rabbit (although rabbits usually get it from other rabbits). It is recommended that you have your cats examined by a vet, and also tjat you minimize their contact Topaz.

I would not recommend to leave the cat and the rabbit unsupervised in the house. The cat has sharp teeth and claws which could seriously injury Mistie if the cat suddenly becomes aggressive or has its prey drive activated. Please post again if you have any further questions!

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Great question. Of course being around other cats no matter what the number is can cause significant stress if the cats don't get along, especially if one constantly torments another one. Cats are very sensitive to this and can suffer very high levels of anxiety and stress hormones but outwardly appear fairly normal. Many health and behavioral problems can develop amongst a population of cats where the relationships are not good. Everyone thinks that all of the cats or all of the dogs will get along, but in reality a significant amount of stress can be involved in certain settings depending upon the animals involved and their interpersonal relationships. Great question. I hope you can resolve what triggered you to ask this question. Good luck with Jessie.

Hello. In a rabbit, this could be heavy breathing/panting, agitation, diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, & not grooming. Basically, it is anything but a quiet, calm well managed rabbit. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Max sounds like he is trying to get your attention :) Rabbits are highly social creatures and when kept in small cages with little stimulation often get very bored and destructive. Is it possible for you to have "play time" with Max where he is allowed to run around loose in a playpen area inside the house, or in a fenced, safe backyard? Also, consider rabbit-safe toys like cardboard boxes and plenty of sticks and hay to chew on, for all your rabbits. Hope that helps!
