Why does my dog gag and stick her tongue out at foil wrapper noises?

That is somewhat unusual to see persistent gagging. You may check with your veterinarian to ask if they have checked his soft palate. Elongation in the soft palate can cause gagging. Allergies causing irritation to the throat can also cause gagging. Esophageal abnormalities are very uncommon but they can also present as gagging. I recommend to call your veterinarian and ask what diagnostics have been done and what else may be indicated. Best of luck.

She could be experiencing nausea that is making her retch, gag and lick her lips. Other times these noises can actually be related to an upper respiratory tract infection. The puppy will cough and gag. This can occasionally bring up a white foamy fluid. Either way she should be seen as she is such a young puppy. I hope this information helps!

It's possible there is something she is hearing, such as a rodent in the walls, neighbor, etc that is causing her to fixate on the spot. Trying to distract her with a treat or toy, or even soothing TV show may help. If she continues to fixate and a cause can't be found, seems in distress or pain, has other symptoms of illness appear, or doesn't settle down, having a vet checkup to rule out any health issues is always a good idea.

The sound you are describing could be related to Bella's collapsing trachea, but it also could be a reverse sneeze. Reverse sneezing in small Terrier dogs is fairly common and usually related to allergies. However, depending on where you live, reverse sneezing can also be from nasal mites- these are easily treatable with a product like Revolution, as long as you have a negative heartworm test first. It is also possible the sound Bella is making has developed secondary to a chronic infection such as dental disease or tooth root abscess. Because there are some different possible causes of Bella's throat sound, I recommend a pre-anesthetic exam so your vet can rule out some causes and help to make the anaesthesia as safe as possible for Bella. Your vet may want to run some basic blood work and take throat/chest x-rays to determine the cause of the noise. Best of luck to you and Bella. tSince Coco was a stray, there is no way to know for sure what caused her to be afraid of high-pitched noises. You can work on easing that fear, however. Buy a high-pitched dog whistle that you cannot hear. Start by having someone at the far end of the house or yard give a short blast of the whistle. While this is happening (and you have to coordinate it exactly, by using hand signals or the word "Now!" for example), give Coco a treat and praise her. Don't reassure her, as that will give her the idea that there really is something to be afraid of! Just act your normal self, and every time she is relaxed as the whistle is sounded, praise and treat. When she is very comfortable with the sound at a considerable distance, have the person with the whistle move a bit closer . . . say two or three steps. This must happen over a period of days or weeks (depending on how fearful she is and how she is responding to the whistle). You can try it several times a day, for only for a few trials each session. If at some point as the whistler moves closer Coco shows fear again, have the person go back to the distance at which Coco was last okay, and proceed more slowly from there. If it's concerning enough to ask about it, then I would recommend having Oliver checked out by your vet. If nothing is found it will at least give you some peace of mind about the issue. As small breeds do get hypoglycemia easily, feeding him several smaller meals throughout the day may help with that, and may make it easier for him to eat enough throughout the day. As for the growling, or any food guarding, talking with a trainer or behaviorist in person is a good idea to start formulating a training plan that can help with resource guarding and other similar behaviors.
