My cat has high FIP titers and is 17 lbs. Is his weight healthy?

I understand you are concerned about FIP. The reality is, if you don't have money for a veterinary visit (and in many cases even if you did), FIP is typically fatal and untreatable. The best thing you can do is separate your sick cat from your healthy one and see how things transpire over the course of the next few days. Typically, cats with FIP, regardless of the form, will be inappetant and not wanting to eat anything at all. The worst form of it will cause massive fluid buiid up in the chest / abdomen and result in difficulty breathing. The other form typically produce clinical signs that are both ophthalmic and/or neurologic, plus several other non specific clinical signs (a couple of which include what you are descrbing). Overall, FIP would not be near the top of my list. I would definitely make sure all three cats have been tested for leukemia and AIDS however in order to rule both of these life-threatening conditions. While not as rapidly fatal as FIP, both conditions can carry poor long term prognosis. It sounds like the one cat with a fever and swollen belly might benefit from pain management and a recheck for the presence of worms. While dietary indiscretion could be an issue, it is not likely to cause a fever unless an infectious organism was present in the food. Hope this is more helpful than my previous response.

It is obscuring his liver and intestines from being seen and there may even be a small amount in his lungs. Unfortunately it is impossible to tell what the fluid is from the x-ray alone. His blood work shows some abnormalities with his electrolytes, which may be if he is not eating or from fluid in the abdomen. Mara also has a high white blood cell count, these are the cells that are responsible for fighting off infections and increase if there is one present. Your vet can run some additional diagnostics, and perform a tap and remove the fluid as well as a blood test to determine if Mara is infected with FIP, a mutated form of a common virus that cats are exposed to. I'm sorry to here that Rose isn't feeling well. While FIP often starts out with non-specific signs as you are describing, (decreased appetite, weight loss), stiffness and change in gait or lameness, are not common symptoms. I cannot tell you there is no way its FIP, because it is possible, but try not to jump straight to that conclusion. if your appointment is not within the next day, you may call and see if they can see her as a work-in appointment, or consider taking her to an emergency vet. The vet will do a thorough exam, and may recommend some lab tests (which would be important to obtain if FIP is a concern), and may recommend some X-rays as well if lameness, pain, or stiffness in the back legs is a problem. Hi there. Based on these lab results, I don't see anything concerning here - it looks like this kitty's liver and kidneys are in good shape, normal blood sugar (so no diabetes), and normal thyroid. The minor changes noted (slightly elevated protein, and slightly elevated eosinophils) do not generally have any major clinical significance. So this wouldn't concern me at all, as long as he seems healthy clinically. It sounds like he's a pretty hefty boy, so I agree that getting him started on a weight loss plan would probably be a good idea! I hope everything works out well for the adoption. :)

I'm so sorry to hear about Theo's battle with FIP. That is, by far, one of the most heartbreaking diseases to diagnose in this field. Most cats are exposed to the coronavirus that causes it, but only an unlucky few convert the virus to FIP. As far as we know, this is based on a genetic predisposition and has nothing to do with exposure from the environment or other cats. If Meika is having loose stool, I would recommend having her seen by a vet. It is much more likely to be due to a common problem, such as a minor parasitic infection or stress colitis from grieving her playmate. They will likely recommend a bland diet, probiotics, or a short course of anti-diarrheal antibiotics if her only symptom is mild loose stool. I cannot say that FIP is impossible, but it would be very low on my list of concerns. I hope this is helpful and gives you some peace of mind. I am so sorry to hear that Messi isn't feeling well. With the protein levels being so high, I too, would be very concerned about FIP. I think the imaging next week should be helpful in making a diagnosis. Another possibility could be a severe abdominal abscess. This would also be very concerning. Certainly there is a possibility of finding a curable problem, but I would start to prepare yourself for the possibility of a life threatening diagnosis. I am so sorry you are experiencing this. I am so sorry Shada is so sick! Because she had the fluid drained from her belly, she will be feeling better having that pressure off, and that's why she is eating, drinking, and using the litter box normally. Unfortunately, FIP is fatal, and the fluid will build up again eventually leading to the same problems. Due to the fact that FIP is fatal, letting her go with humane euthanasia is the best option, especially if she is experiencing fluid accumulation. You can, if you'd like, put off the appointment for a few days to enjoy some last quality time with her before the fluid builds up again, but it's certainly ok to say goodbye to her tomorrow.
