My cat had eye surgery for a stick. Why is his other eye discharging?

It would be best to culture this discharge to determine which would be the best antibiotic to treat it and proceed with therapy. In some cases, a revision surgery may be needed. I am so sorry about Stitches's eye. She appears to have obtained some sort of trauma, or have a severe infection in the eye. She keeps it closed & is acting timid because it hurts & she is in quite a bit of pain. She really needs veterinary attention so that the proper treatment can be done to save her vision, & possibly even her eye.

This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, allergies, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. Given that this seems more associated with when he has been outside, allergies seems likely. Another possibility is an upper respiratory infection. I highly recommend that you have Dexter evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!

This could be due to a scratch on the eye and/or an infection. The possible infection can be on the outside, or inside of the eye. There are also some eyelid disorders that can cause damage to the eye. Without seeing it, I can't narrow it down more than this. However, the cloudy discharge is concerning enough that it's best to take Shasta to a vet within the next 24 hours. Infections and other problems can quickly cause irreversible damage to the eye, so it's best to have it diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. For now, you can flush the eye 3-4 times a day with saline (can get this at the pharmacy or supermarket in the eye care section) to help clean and soothe it. Ouch, poor Dexter! Cats can develop squinting and swollen eyes for several reasons, the most common being related to infection or corneal ulcers (scratches). Eyes are delicate structures and injuries and infections can progress rapidly. I strongly recommend taking Dexter to the vet immediately for evaluation so that appropriate medications can be started. There are no over the counter medications available for these issues and cats' eyes can be quite sensitive even to some prescription based antibiotics. Make sure that Dexter is wearing an e-collar (cone) to prevent him from rubbing or scratching at his eye, make the issue worse. I hope that he is feeling better soon!

I am so sorry to hear that Ichabod is experiencing these problems with his eyes. Thank you for providing an excellent picture, it seems slightly redx the third eye lid is protruding, and has discharge. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Ichabod to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Him to scratch or rub hiseye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. Because eye concerns with cats, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly in I would have him examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. I agree that Sprinkles' right eye appears to have a good bit of discharge and squinting. While it's possible that this issue could be caused by an infection, I would expect both eyes to be affected. When only one eye squints, I worry more about corneal ulcers or abrasions. The only way to know for sure is to take Sprinkles to a vet for a physical exam, including eye evaluation. Since Sprinkles is feral, this process is likely to be more challenging, so you may want to ask your vet if they can prescribe a mild oral sedative like gabapentin to be given before the appointment. Depending on what is found, Sprinkles will likely need to receive eye medication at least twice per day, so he may need to be kept inside or in a safe, confined area until this issue has resolved. Eye issues can change and progress rapidly, so it's best to have him evaluated as soon as possible. Until then, keep him confined and try to put an e-collar (cone) on him if at all possible to prevent any rubbing or scratching of this eye. I hope that he's on the mend soon!
