Why is my cat sick with white eye film, shedding, weight loss, and bad smell?

Hello. Dexter probably is infected with a common feline herpes virus. Cats are infected as kittens & remain infected all their lives. It usually only causes mild, but reoccurring problems, usually at high stress times. However, it does not usually cause weight loss, unless things are severe, & your pictures only shows a very mildly affected cat. So, the next step is to see your vet & make sure he is Feline Leukemia & Feline Immundeficiency virus negative. This is done with just 3 drops of blood in your vet's office & takes 10 minutes. Poor guy. I would first suspect that he may have either a bacterial infection or a parasite infection. Have his stool tested by your vet to determine which is present so that he can get the proper treatment. Poor guy. I hope Sammy feels better soon. In the meantime offer him tuna and white rice to help settle his stomach and plenty of water to help prevent him from getting dehydrated. Poor girl. With those symptoms, I would highly recommend a vet visit as soon as possible. There are many different possible causes and the symptoms you're describing span multiple organ systems, so I can't give you a very accurate "most likely" list. The vet will start with a detailed physical exam and go from there, likely including some blood work and x-rays.

Sudden weight loss is always a very big warning light that should not be taken lightly, it's usually a sign of an internal disease that needs to be investigated, i strongly recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it checked, he will need to have a blood test done and possibly an xray as well in order to attempt to diagnose the reason for these symptoms.

Possible causes for weight loss and not eating in a young cat are: foreign body, intestinal parasites, feline leukemia, FIP (feline infectious peritonitis), toxin ingestion, or even cancer.
