Can cats eat kale? My cat threw up and had diarrhea after eating it.

Oh no it's not good that Kitty ate that vomit! At most, I would expect that eating this vomit could cause some GI upset, causing her to vomit and/or have diarrhea. It's good that it doesn't look like she has eaten the plastic bag, and if she ate the bag, I would be concerned that the bag could cause a foreign body obstruction. Keep an eye on her for now, and if you see any vomiting or diarrhea, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Vomiting and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Kalvin evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start him on medications to make him feel better and check his hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. It's possible Luna may just have some minor GI upset, or she is going too long in between meals if this has only happened twice and she is otherwise normal and happy. Other possibilities can include something such as a hairball that is leading to vomiting. Offering a bland meal after she vomits, or increasing the number of meals she gets per day may help with anything minor. If the vomiting continues, worsens, she shows other signs of illness, or you are just very concerned about it, it is always best to schedule a veterinary visit to rule out more serious issues. Internal parasites, GI illness, metabolic diseases, etc can all potentially cause vomiting as a symptom, so a complete exam is best to rule out any more serious problems.

Hello, and thank you for your question. I suspect that ingesting this amount of cranberry, vitamin C and E is the cause of your kitty's vomiting and diarrhea. However, my research does not indicate any further toxicity concerns beyond gastrointestinal symptoms. If her symptoms continue over the next few hours, I would suggest taking her to the vet to check her electrolytes and provide symptomatic therapy for her diarrhea and vomiting. It sounds as Sia is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Cats might experience some gastrointestinal distress after chewing/eating pansies so I'm not surprised about the diarrhea but that should be the extent of the symptoms. Pansies are not overly toxic to cats. The diarrhea is usually self-limiting meaning it should go away on it's own in a day or two but if you want to, you can give him some probiotics for a week or two. It won't hurt and may help. Diarrhea and a decrease in appetite could be a sign of a number of different problems. Intestinal parasites are possible, even for indoor cats, as are some infections or diseases like colitis or inflammatory bowel disease. If the diarrhea continues for more than 24 hours or seems to be getting worse, or if her appetite does not improve during that time I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian. They may treat her symptoms or recommend some testing like blood work or a fecal analysis depending on what they find during a physical examination.
