My cat chewed a porcelain vase. Could she have eaten it? What to do?

Oh no it's not good that Kitty ate that vomit! At most, I would expect that eating this vomit could cause some GI upset, causing her to vomit and/or have diarrhea. It's good that it doesn't look like she has eaten the plastic bag, and if she ate the bag, I would be concerned that the bag could cause a foreign body obstruction. Keep an eye on her for now, and if you see any vomiting or diarrhea, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. I'm glad to hear that she vomited the towel up! My concern is that there is other towel material or other foreign material that she ingested in the trash can. I'm glad that she seems to be eating normally now, but if she vomits or refuses her food at any point, take her to the vet. They will be able to perform an exam and abdominal x-rays to try to rule out the presence of more foreign material causing an obstruction in her stomach and/or intestines.

She would stop creating feces and start vomiting within a day or two of becoming obstructed. There is a possibility that the bottle cap (if ingested) will stay in the stomach and never cause an issue, or many weeks or months later it could move into the intestines and then cause issues. Or she may not have even eaten the bottle cap! You can have her examined and x-rayed with a veterinarian, sometimes that will show plastic if it is in the stomach, but not always.

Hi and thanks for your request. I would strongly recommend to monitor her for the next 48hours to see if appetite and urination/defecation are normal. There may be some pieces ''on the way out''. Small amount of liquid paraffin (2mls per meal) and a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice would be ideal for the next week.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes if the foreign material is small enough compared to the size of the patient, it may be digested or passed in the stools. This will of course take 24-48 hours to be determined. You can monitor her closely for clinical symptoms that could indicate an obstruction such as nausea (lip smacking, decreased appetite and/or drooling), vomiting, inappetence, lethargy and/or abdominal pain. If you see any of those clinical symptoms, have her evaluated by a veterinarian right away. Otherwise, if she is acting normal, it is ok to continue to monitor her for now. It is possible that this was causing her an obstruction and now she has thrown it up and defecated some of it and has thankfully relieved her obstruction. That is good as surgery is needed in most cases as they are not able to pass it or throw it up on their own. You can continue to monitor her for signs of an on-going obstruction such as vomiting, abdominal pain, inappetence or lethargy and if observed, have her examined then as soon as possible as that may represent an emergency. Otherwise, if she is back to her normal self and no more symptoms show, she may be ok. Good luck!

I would keep an eye on her for now. If she starts acting lethargic, vomiting, having diarrhea, becomes anorexic, or doesn't pass any feces at all, then I would take her into the vet immediately. Hopefully, this hair tie will pass without problem, but you can give her a teaspoon of canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) to add more fiber to her diet to see if that helps her pass feces.
