Can I add water to my cat's thick wet prescription food for syringe feeding?

I bet he loves it! As long as there are no additives to the sardines like garlic or onions (which are toxic) I don't see anything wrong with doing this. The diets do have different mechanisms of action. However, as long as the Hills diet makes up 90% of Milo's total calorie intake or more, it should work just fine. It sounds like Milo only gets the canned food every other day so I suspect it is just fine. When in doubt, decrease the amount of canned food. You could count up how many calories he gets in the dry and how many he gets in the canned. Then do the math and get an exact ratio as well. Then you will have no doubts! Yes! You can certainly feed him the dry version. We like them to eat the canned food because of the higher water content but it is not imperative. Drinking a lot of water is good and it sounds like he is doing that anyway. If the water intake is excessive though, you may want to have Duck examined by your vet and have some bloodwork done to check his kidney values and blood sugar levels to make sure there is no other underlying issues. By doing that the kibbles smell stronger and are more attractive to cats. Also, they fill up the stomach quickly, so your cats will feel better after each meal. Also, adding water to kibbles increases general water intake, which is beneficial for health in many cats.
