What's this red lump above my mini macaw's eye? Cause & treatment?

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). Giving the upper eyelid lesion as well a skin infection is more likely. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Your vet may want to perform a skin scrape to identify underlying cause more specifically. Disinfection can possibly be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. The lesion is probably due to self scratching, but could be in result of a skin infection, sinus pressure (bird's sinuses surround the eye), bruising, feather mites and more. Monitor for now but if get larger or really seems to be bothering him, a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.

Poor Smokey! Those look pretty red and inflamed, so I'd recommend bringing him to a vet to have it examined. Infections on the skin itself, an abscess (infection under the skin), cysts, tumors, parasites and more may all be possible causes, so having it looked at, especially if it's growing in size or bothersome, is best.

Based on the pictures you provided it does appear that there is some hemorrhage under the skin of the eye. This is most likely related to trauma (ie hitting the eye/face on something). Keep an eye on it for now. If your bird is otherwise acting normal then I would not worry about it too much. If however the redness spreads or your bird seems painful you should probably take him in to be checked out by your veterinarian. I hope this helps. I would advise you have an avian veterinarian examine the growth unless it resolves on it's own. Possibilities include an eyelid gland infection, a granuloma or collection of inflammatory cells, or a tumor which could be benign or malignant. Best to have it looked at and your vet can determine what steps are necessary to diagnose and treat it effectively. I hope this helps and I wish you and Mango good luck. It may be local infection, inflammation or a mass (benign or malignant). If It is not bothering Princess, you can choose to monitor it for rapid change or growth. You should see your veterinarian or an experienced avian veterinarian if the bump causes discomfort or obstructs vision. A physical exam and biopsy may provide a diagnosis.
