My lovebird is eating glass from my phone screen. Is it dangerous?

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. I'm sorry that Mango is having this issue. Yes, many different metals can cause toxicity in birds if ingested but the main ones of concern are lead and zinc. You will need to take Mango to an avian vet when they are open. The metal snap will need to be removed even if it is made of a non harmless metal like stainless steel. I suggest you go to a speciality center as they are more likely to have an endoscope which will be better than doing an open surgery for removal. Sometimes, depending on where the metal piece is located in the GI tract and the size of the snap, they can try removal via bulking agents fed orally instead of doing any invasive procedures. He will likely be fine. Most birds will simply chew paper or fabric without actually ingesting it. You can monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite or loose droppings. See your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating birds if necessary.

If you believe Conk has ingested a foreign body it would be best to seek veterinary care ASAP, especially if he is showing any signs of illness such as vomiting, unable to pass stool, lethargy, loss of appetite, etc, which could indicate something is stuck.

Ingested foreign bodies are not uncommon in birds, and ingested clumping litter can harden in the crop or lower gastrointestinal tract, but also consider other foreign bodies such as items that contain zinc or lead. These metals are soft and can lead to nausea. Metabolic disorders and infections are other possibilities. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Any other animals that could have possible harmed her, other birds or cats? Monitor appetite and activity. If lesion grows or Dawn becomes weak or stops eating, a veterinary visit is recommended. Thanks for reaching out about Jelly and including photos. First observe to see if she can eat and crack hard things like seeds. Structures internal of the beak can be damaged and these will not likely heal well on their own. It the beak is just bruised, it should be fine. The foot appears bruised also, but if fractured, probably will recommend cage rest as most digits are minimally displaced with a fracture and tend to heal fine, as long as not an open wound. If having difficulty perching, removing perches and allow to stand on fluffy towel on bottom of cage, for several days. If not eating, need to see the vet. Good luck

It's absolutely not fine if it is in her stomach, and it's a very bad situation as she will probably need to have a surgery done to get it removed. these surgeries can only be done by avian vet specialist and even with one, the chances of a successful surgery are less than 50% survival.
