Why are my homing pigeons so tired after training or flying?

Unfortunately, lethargy/sleepiness is a very vague symptom that may just indicate she isn't feeling well, but not what is causing her to feel that way. A good step would be to bring her to the vet, especially if you note any other signs of illness such as changes in weight, acting listless even when you're not interacting with her, not eating or drinking, stool changes, etc. If she checks out healthy, or seems normal and healthy otherwise when you aren't trying to pet her, it could just be that Pidgey is getting more used to you, and is actually enjoying your touch enough to relax and rest around you. This can be a good sign of bonding! However, if she seems ill or you are concerned, a vet appointment in person is best.

Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. Thanks for reaching out about your pigeon. Egg binding is a common cause for inability to utilize the legs, if an egg is still in the uterus or has damaged a nerve while passing. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. If can not stand, remove perches and provide a soft towel on which to sit. Ensure that food and water are easily accessible. Review diet to include vitamins and minerals, best in the form of fresh vegetables. Good luck.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be due to something not ideal in her nutrition. This may also be due to her being sick as she is also very weak. This is something that can be due to a number of reasons but for sure warrants a veterinary evaluation for further assessment and treatment. I recommend you consider going to your veterinarian for further assessment. They may be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. Best of luck!

It's possible the bird may be injured or ill. If he still doesn't recover, even after eating and drinking and resting some, it is a good idea to contact a local wildlife rehab in your area. They may be able to come get the bird (or have you bring him to them) so he can be examined, treated for any issues, and safely re-released.

The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence lasts for more than 24hours. There are multiple causes of acute loss of legs including: spinal trauma, metabolic concerns (liver, kidney), infectious diseases (circovirus, aspergillosis), and more.
