My pet is lethargic and turning its head. Is liquid food okay?

There are no medications that can be prescribed over the internet. But providing heat support in the 80-85 degrees range, 24/7 might allow him to conserve some energy that he would normally use to heat himself. Remove perches and allow to stand on a flat soft surface (towel or blanket). Ensure that food and water are within easy reach. Using a small syringe without a needle, to offer water is very important. Go slow as to not allow aspiration into the lungs. Most pet stores sell baby bird hand rearing formulas, in an attempt to give calories. Still, a veterinary visit is best. Good luck.

The good news is that you can continue to feed Chou-Choi and offer Gatorade as you have been doing. Dilute the Gatorade with an equal amount of water. Feed him as much as he'll eat without getting sick. As long as he is eating a good quality food, he will begin to gain weight. Keep him warm and as stress free as possible. Keep his eyes, nose and mouth clear. If he seems congested, run a hot shower and place him in the bathroom (NOT in the tub) for 15-20 minutes. The steam will help loosen congestion. Since a veterinarian is unavailable, consider calling a local clinic and speaking directly with a doctor. Depending on local laws, the vet may be able to send you medication if indicated. You may need to bring him to a veterinarian if he does not show signs of improvement or continues to lose weight in spite of a healthy diet.

Check and correct diet, as an all seed diet is not sufficient for proper health. Vitamins, mineral and proteins are also needed. Hello, so sorry that Kiwi is having this issue. She looks extremely ill in the photo. If you can't take her to a vet then I am afraid that her chances at recovery are minimal at best. There is nothing I can tell you to do at home without knowing what the underlying cause of her symptoms are. There are many possibilities: * Amyloidosis * Atrial thrombosis * Congestive heart failure * Heat stroke * Hypothermia * Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) * Sepsis (severe infection) - common would be a uterine infection called pyometra * Toxicosis/poisoning * Trauma * Tumor / Neoplasia The only thing you can do at home is to keep her calm/quiet and warm. You can try syringing water into her mouth but without veterinary intervention I do not believe she will recover. Even with veterinary intervention she may not recover but that is going to be your best chance at saving her. Again, so sorry that you are having to deal with this and I hope she pulls through. This may be due to trauma, infection or a nutritional deficiency. You will need to have Chi Chi examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating birds to diagnose the underlying cause. Supportive care (subcutaneous fluids, syringe feeding, etc) may be necessary until she can raise her head and perch normally.
