How to get my dusty African Grey to bathe if it hates water?

Not all birds will bathe all the time or even enjoy taking a bath. You can set a dish of clean shallow water in the cage and give them a chance to check it out and bathe themselves. Some birds also enjoy being misted with a cool spray bottle (not directly aimed at them) instead of a bath. However, if your birds are otherwise clean and healthy, I wouldn't worry too much.

You can definitely use a warm water mist from a spray bottle and see if your budgie enjoys it. If he moves away or acts scared, it may be a little too much for him. The water should be warm enough to be comfortable, but not too hot it burns. Testing it on yourself first is smart. Another option is to place a shallow dish filled with warm water in it for your budgie to bathe himself. Most budgies enjoy having a bath to play in. The water should be changed daily or as needed if it becomes dirty.

I would agree that you do not want to force your bird to bathe because it may cause him undue stress and anxiety. Try encouraging him to bathe more frequently by using his favorite treats as a reward. You should not have to worry about mites unless there is a source of infection that your bird comes into contact with on a regular basis (most commonly another infected bird). I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.

Bathe or shower Hunter in warm water for at least 15 minutes. You can run the shower and let him play in there (supervised) to rinse him. Monitor for lethargy, difficulty breathing or decreased appetite in the next 24-48 hours. See your vet if necessary.

Yes. You can just spray through the cage bars. Use warm water in the spray bottle and set it on a fine mist setting. You may want to remove their food first so r doesn't get wet and I usually change papers in my birds' cages after misting because wet and poop covered papers will stink or may grow mold etc. just spray threw the bars and see how they react. The may move away at first then come back. Or it may take seve days or sessions to become used to it. Some birds never like it but others love their spray bottle baths.

If Ringo is otherwise acting normal and healthy, I wouldn't be too worried about the bathing, as it could very well be its too cold for him. You can try offering some warm water to see if he shows interest, or even using a spray bottle on a mist setting to see if he's interested in "showering" under it. If he seems to be acting ill in addition to this, or is having other changes in behavior, eating habits, etc, then it is always a good idea to schedule a vet checkup and rule out any health issues as a cause.

Thanks for reaching out. Most birds beaks do not need trimming. They naturally where down as they chew food and investigate materials. Generally, when a bird needs a beak trim, something is wrong, such as liver disease, malocclusion or some viral diseases. For bathing, some birds like the shower, a wash bin or can be sprayed gently. Some appreciate room temperature, some warm. You just need to play around a little. Good luck.
