Pet not recovering after vet visit & medication. What should I do?

Us PetCoaches don't have access to your previously asked questions, so I am not quite sure what is going on with Cookie. Cotrimoxazole can cause GI upset and it may not be the best antibiotic for Cookie. Metronidazole is an good antibiotic for GI bacteria, but it can cause severe side effects if used in high doses over the day (I generally prescribe it for twice daily usage). Continued vomiting despite treatment means that there may be something else going on. Antinausea medications will help, but only if things like a GI obstruction have been completely ruled out. I would recommend you discuss the ongoing vomiting with your vet, or use a Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach Consult so that we can evaluate the entire case, diagnostics, and current treatments to help you decide what to try next with your vet.

This may be a good case to choose a Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach Consult as there are a lot of variables we would need to know to help you the most. Causes for low white cells could be severe, overwhelming infection, viral, or even something like cancer. Many medications would take longer than 5 hours to see a positive response, but it varies based on the presumptive diagnosis your vet has made and the particular medication. Some medications can be dual purpose and treat pain. There are many diagnostics I would recommend based Kent he bit of information you gave us, like other tick testing, blood chemistry, urinalysis, x-rays, ultrasound, fecal testing, etc.

There are a lot of things that could be causing this appearance to the skin, and it may not be easy or cheap to figure it out. I would recommend that you keep working with the vet. Baseline blood work, thyroid hormone, testing for Cushing's disease, skin biopsies, food trials, flea preventatives, etc may be needed.

If your dog does not start showing improvement after 48 hours of being on the medication and/or if his symptoms persist, then you should take him back to your veterinarian for a recheck. He may need additional diagnostics like blood work, X-rays, and/or a parvo test (depending on his vaccination status). He may also need supportive care like nausea medication and fluid therapy. Hello. It often takes a bit of time for some infections to clear, but if you are concerned, please have her rechecked as soon as possible. This may be an indication that a new, or another antibiotic needs to be added to her treatment. Another option is to have her re-evaluated at a referral clinic, one that has multiple specialists. Sometimes, it takes a fresh pair of eyes to diagnose a difficult problem. Do not wait to see what happens since she is obviously worse. I am not sure if this is a followup question and you've already posted, but unfortunately the forum doesn't allow us to easily pull up your previous questions if you've asked them. What I am understanding from your post is that Oddy is 4 month old puppy who is sick. I am guessing she has diarrhea, as I suspect that "metrogyl dreep" is metronidazole which is often used to treat diarrhea. If she does have diarrhea one concerning possible cause is Parvovirus which can cause profound dehydration and sepsis and can be deadly. It sounds like you've already seen a vet with her; please followup with the vet and ask about giving fluids if that hasn't been done.
