Saltwater Gobies

Want to add a small fish with big personality to your saltwater aquarium, a goby may be just what you are looking for. Saltwater gobies are a member of the Gobiidae family consisting of more than 2,000 species, several being able to be housed in the home marine aquarium. These fish have such good personalities, there are several species, like the Yasha Goby, that have the ability to form symbiotic relationships with some species of pistol shrimp. Because many of the goby species like to borrow and sift through the sand for food, they prefer a lay of fine substrate at the bottom of the tank.

Frequently Asked Questions About Aquarium Algae Control

Most gobies are peaceful, but certain species can be intolerant of other gobies that look similar or are of the same sex, especially in smaller aquariums.

Most species of gobies are safe in the reef aquarium, although there are several species that may feed on small crustaceans.

A gobies diet will vary by species. There are sand sifting species that consume detritus, algae and small crustaceans. Most gobies will do well when provided a high quality diet of frozen brine and mysis shrimp, flake and pelleted foods.
