Russian Tortoises are easily maintained and social animals. They come from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and surrounding areas. In this natural habitat, they are subjected to harsh weather and a rugged terrain. Keeping a Russian Tortoise indoors can be done in a 40-gallon glass habitat or similar size, although more space will always be appreciated. Provide a basking area of 90-100 degrees and keep the ambient temperature around 80 degrees. Be sure to provide a water bowl that is easily accessible for the tortoise. However, it is also recommended to soak the tortoise 1-2 times per week in shallow, lukewarm water as well to make sure they are drinking. They can be kept indoors or outdoors depending on the season, but expect that they will make their own burrow in preparation of winter!
Lighting & Heating Requirements: UVB. Daytime heating with incandescent day or basking bulb. Night time heat from red or black incandescent or heat emitter.
