Flea and Tick Prevention for Dogs
The days of treating your pet's flea and tick infestations with dips, sprays, powders and bombs every two weeks are over. Dog fleas and ticks are dangerous disease carriers, and they can make your dog's life miserable. Frontline, available in a dab-on formula or a spray, uses fipronil to wipe out adult fleas and control ticks. For flea control, it can be used every three months; for tick control, it should be administered once a month.

Preventing Fleas and Ticks
If you keep your dog on his leash or in a fenced area when outside, you can greatly reduce exposure to dog fleas and ticks. Regular grooming will help you detect the presence of dog fleas and ticks early, which is one of the keys to controlling them. In addition, numerous products are available that can help with flea and tick removal and control including treated flea and tick collars, sprays, flea control powders, flea and tick shampoos, flea and tick dips and monthly treatment applications.

Facts About Ticks
Ticks may appear as a small dark speck on your pet's fur, or may appear as small growths when engorged. Tick Removal: If bitten, ticks should be removed from skin promptly to minimize the amount of disease transmitted. Using tweezers, grasp the tick close to the skin and pull gently. Tick removal should never be done with your bare hand. Prevent new ticks from biting and help detach already attached ticks with special collars or products applied topically.

Facts About Fleas
Pets infested with fleas will bite and scratch themselves constantly. Their coats become roughened and the skin can become infected. For effective flea control and to prevent re-infestation, you must break the flea life cycle by killing flea eggs and larvae, which make up 95% of the flea population. Spot topical treatments kill flea eggs, larvae and pupa. They will also kill and repel adult fleas. Any serious flea associated illness, such as Flea Allergy Dermatitis, Tapeworms or Flea Bite Anemia, should be treated by your veterinarian.
