Instructions

1. Turn off filters and/or air pumps to reduce water surface turbulence.
2. Gently place hydrometer in the water and allow it to stop bobbing to get an accurate reading.
3. If there are only fish present in your aquarium with no invertebrates (shrimp, coral, starfish, anemones, slugs, etc.), the manufacturer recommends a salinity level of 1.017 to 1.020.
4. If you have a reef tank with invertebrates, the manufacturer recommends a salinity level of 1.022 to 1.027.
5. In general terms, anything from 1.017 into the green zone to 1.027 is safe for short periods of time. But the recommended levels above are a vital part of proper maintenance of saltwater aquariums.
