100% Natural Cypress MulchZoo Med's Forest Floor Bedding is a natural product made from the ground bark of cypress trees. Forest Floor Bedding is the preferred substrate for all types of frogs, toads, salamanders, tarantulas, and insects.
Many species of terrestrial land turtles do benefit from using Forest Floor Bedding as their substrate, but you should feed them in a separate container with no substrate or bedding (this prevents the accidental ingestion of the substrate from messy feeding turtles).
InstructionsOpen bag and pour contents into terrarium. The substrate should be two to three inches deep for all species of frogs, salamanders, and insects. For burrowing toads or tarantulas, or for keeping live terrarium plants, keep substrate at three to four inches.
Helpful Suggestions
- Always add a low Repti Rock Water Dish to your terrarium and build the Forest Floor Bedding up along the edges of the water dish to allow for easy access into and out of the water dish.
- Mist Forest Floor Bedding periodically to create humidity in your terrarium. All tropical reptiles and amphibians should have a minimum 50% humidity level. Use Zoo Med's Analog Humidity Gauge to monitor humidity levels in your terrarium.
- Live Plants: Add live terrarium plants and bury the base of the plant into the Forest Floor Bedding. As you water your plants, you will help in adding beneficial humidity to the terrarium.
Cleaning
Zoo Med's Forest Floor Bedding should be removed and discarded at least every six months or if a foul odor persists.
