Your Lixit Dog Water Bottle comes with a two-piece wire bottle holder for installation on carrier cages, holding pens, display cages, and chain link fencing. When properly installed, the support hanger and bail wire lock the bottle securely in position. The "quick release" locking bail fits into a special notch molded on the backside of the bottle. To release the bail, press inward on the molded notch below the bail finger lift. The bottle support hanger carries the full weight of the bottle and must be used for installation. This avoids stress on the cap seal and minimizes the risk of leakage from loss of vacuum. The locking bail must be adjusted enough to keep the bail locked in position without deforming the bottle or exerting leverage on the cap/bottle seal. This gentle latching force can be achieved in two easy ways:

1. by bending the 45-degree bottle support hanger upward or downward (which raises or lowers the bottle), or
2. by bending the front of the bail inward or outward.

With Carrier Cages

You need to cut a vertical slot in the wire grid with a wire cutter to install the bottle support hanger and provide proper 45-degree tube entry. Insert the hanger legs through the slot and hook the loop ends up over a higher horizontal grid wire. Attach the wire bail to the same horizontal wire. Adjust the bail latching tension as noted above.

With Holding Pens and Display Cages

Use any convenient horizontal cross wire to attach the bottle support hanger and locking wire bail. On holding pens, you may have to spread the hanger legs two to three inches apart to lock the 45-degree bottle support securely between the vertical cage wires. Also, for small dogs, you may have to install a separate horizontal support rod (such as 11" - 12" length of 3/16" or 1/4" metal rod) for mounting the bottle at an appropriate height. Use nylon ties, or wire twists, to securely attach this separate support rod. This extra support rod (if needed) is available at local hardware stores.

With Chain Link Fence

You will have to insert a short 11" - 12" steel or aluminum rod horizontally between the chain links to install the bottle holder. Attach the rod securely with nylon ties or wire twists. This separate support rod serves as a horizontal cross wire for mounting the bottle support hanger and locking wire bail. Be sure the hanger legs are inserted between the chain links. This needed support rod is available at local hardware stores.

Important Notice

• Always fill bottle completely full.
• Continuous dripping can occur if cap is not tightened securely.

Miscellaneous Information

• Always use the bottle support hanger.
• Install out of direct sunlight.
• Permanent hanger installation is recommended. Use pliers to crimp bail loops over cage wire.
• If ice cubes are used on hot days, water will drip more than normal. This is caused by the difference of temperature in the bottle and the outside air.

An exposed ring of water surrounds the control ball of the Lixit Dog Water Bottle at all times. When thirsty, your dog will be attracted by the smell of this exposed water at the tube tip. Instinctively, they will nuzzle and lick the control ball, and start drinking. If this "self-training" is uncertain, you can loosen the cap until the tube starts to drip. This dripping will attract the dog and initiate the training process. Once dog is trained, retighten the cap.

Important

Always fill the bottle completely full and tighten cap securely. Minor slow drips may continue until the water warms up to the surrounding air temperature. Thereafter, internal air expansion on temperature increase may cause an occasional drip. This is a normal function.

Wide mouth bottle design allows ice cubes to be inserted on hot days. This may cause minor dripping because of the difference between the inside water temperature and the outside air temperature.
