Food
Providing food throughout the year will make your yard a must stop for a variety of birds. Different birds have varying food preferences and are attracted to different types of feeders. By offering a variety of wild bird food in different types of feeders, you will attract a wider variety of birds. Be sure to place the feeders in special areas where you can see your new visitors.
Water
Water is as important as food. Your chances for attracting a greater variety of birds increases by providing water on a year round basis. Remember, not all birds eat seeds and grains, but all birds need water. Keep the water source fresh and clean and in a container no deeper than three inches.
Cover
While we enjoy watching the special beauty of birds, remember that birds are constantly in quest of survival. Planting cover that shields from predators and harsh weather is critical for survival. Make sure feeder placement is in an area that is sheltered for the birds (near/in trees, shrubs, and bushes). In addition, the cover can provide sanctuary for nesting, as well as natural food sources provided by fruit bearing shrubs and bushes.
